Where is the tube from the Mopar oil separators in the valve covers going? Air pump?

Finally put on some street miles today.Oil temp sits right at 210 when engine is fully warmed,so I'm pretty happy with that with a hardblock shortblock.I never got on it hard today was more concerned about a nice break in seating the rings up and down on the throttle.I'm going to put on a few more miles change the bronze dist gear to the polymer. At the same time doing a oil change and cutting the filter open.I'm still fine tuning the new engine for the street.
Two products that I will always use are the BOP one piece oil pan gasket ..no leaks or minor weeps and Remflex gaskets that sealed my crappy warped headers.

Ernie- Can you comment on idle quality between the two?

I know it has probably been stated SOMEWHERE in the previous 600-something replies, but which crappy warped headers are you running? ;-)

1 3/4 Hooker Super Comps. The reason they are crappy is I cut the flanges between the ports and I've had a couple tubes just twist slightly. They are a pain to put on..but are sealed up nice with the Remflex gasket.I did a port match on the header openings a few years back also.

I'm still in the tuning process, but the new combo pulls almost 13 inches at 1000rpm.I do have the idle turned up at the present time for initial breakin. It feels strong down the highway very easy to speed,it falls into a nice purr at 65 to 70 mph with very little throttle opening.I'm currently running a mix of 87/91 octane and zero hint of pinging.
Once it has a few more miles on it I will do a cranking compression test..the old engine was 170..it won't surprise me if this one is 190 to 195.

Sounds like now is a good time to buy stock in rear tires in Ontario.

Thanks..I should be at 10.75..My son says the car really sounds different..it has about the same smoothness for an idle but stronger and much deeper sound.I still don't have the tailpipes on from last years experiment so the sound of the motor really booms out.

I like how the motor "barks" when it first fires!

I just put another 40 miles on a combination of highway and street. I drove to the local town went to the self serve car wash, did a minor retune of the carb, lowered the idle down to 900 rpm and I also richened the idle mixture slightly. This engine is just as smooth or maybe smoother than the old setup. Down the highway it is great you could drive it 65 to 80 mph all day. Around town its a different story..still pretty smooth but without tailpipes this engine just booms and must shake every window.

As far as engine oil temps with the hardblok shortblock, I really don't see any issues, down the highway the oil temp reads 190 degrees. My thermostat is a 160 so that is right in line with what I have read about oil temps being 30 degrees warmer then coolant temps. In town it creeps up to 210..which still isn't an issue. I'm assuming less volume being pump at lower rpms causes the increase. From what I have read I shouldn't have any issues unless I'm seeing 250 plus for extended periods.

I haven't got on it hard yet, once I change the oil, check the filter..its good to go.I did take it up in the rpms a little tonite..It felt good but I only went to about 4500 rpm and just in high gear..I still need to dbl check total timing.

I'm pretty methodical on my break ins all in good time!
