Default 64 Remote Fender Side View Mirror vs Standard Door Side View Mirror

Just curious...

'64 GTO/LeMans owners...

Has anyone with a factory Fender mounted side view remote mirror switched to the Door mounted manual side view mirror?

I'm starting to prefer the look of the Door mounted mirror
(plus the remote mirror cable/controls has been problematic).

Personal preference I suppose.

Thanks!

John

By the time I bought my '64 Goat, Dec 1968, the original owner had already removed the remote, fender mounted, mirror, and replaced it with a manual mirror. But, he (or a dealer) mounted this new mirror directly where the remote one had been mounted - on the fender, not on the door - and it covered the cable holes completely..., I had no idea that it wasn't from the factory. Not until I sent for the PHS some years back did I learn the car came with the remote mirror option. That manual mirror is still on the car, but will get replaced with a very nice remote one I found. Hmm, here's hoping I don't have problems with the control... we'll see.

I can tell you that it doesn't function very well for me. It's so far away from me while driving, compared to the door mounted mirror, the viewing area is very small...
It does look cool though. Lol

I have the fender mount on mine & it does take some getting use to , but the operation is fine , the 3 cables are color coder to the the mirror & the toggle in a sheath , if cables are damaged or mixed up then you will have troubles. NOS unit avail if anyone in need .

I had Scott Tieman move my front fender mounted mirror to a door mirror location.

Prefer that location after 30 years with the fender mirror deal.
Not interested in doing the right side door mirror.

Have seen double fender Mirrors and to me they look like a Cop Car in Drag.

I also moved the rear radio antenna to the right front fender as the antenna/motor were damaged one time.

Alas, our GTO has no outside rearview mirror at all. Very weird to drive a car without at least a driver's side exterior mirror.

OK who sells the best replacement door mirror for the '64 GTO?
I've seen a lot of reviews on these and it always states that the mirror head
flops around on the swivel post.
There seems to be quite a price difference on this item also.
Does our host sell one of the better made?....thanks
