I have a Honda EU2000I generator. I went to use it last week at the track and it wouldn't start. I pulled the carb off cleaned about 10 times. now it starts but dies out right away. Any ideas? Thanks John

I've had one for about ten years. It's been my experience with most small equipment that you are far better off replacing the carb with a new one rather than spending the time trying to sort the old one.
That is a complex little generator, and an excellent one. First make it's set to run full speed rather than the eco setting. That will at least let you know if it's the carb, or something in the automatic eco-throttle. Not sure how often you use yours ... but I still have to refresh my memory before use, and get the choke set properly, the eco-throttle turned off, the fuel turned on etc. A new carb including the throttle control motor is about $125. The throttle control motor by itself is about $80. Those generators are quite the piece of work, not as user-repairable-friendly as the simple Briggs&Stratton type. |

It is probably 5 to 6 years old. It doesn't have more than 5 hours of run time on it.

They like to be used. Mine gets difficult if it sits for a year ... use it every week, will run forever.
Make sure you have all the wiring hooked up to the throttle control motor correctly. |

X2 on carb replacement. Cheaper and easier in the end.

I bought a new Carb. It runs fine now. Just hated to spend $118.00 for the carb.

That usually ends up being the only solution. That electric throttle control motor on the carb is difficult to diagnose .... and most of the price of the carb.
Still, an EXCELLENT little generator. Mine has been going for over 10 years will little or no maintenance. |

X3 .... it is a MUST, not an option. Well, unless you use it every week.

You will not have any issue with these engines starting if they are run out of fuel each time they are used. The problem is they sit sometimes for years with fuel in them, it evaporates and clogs the primary jet (in most cases). If nothing else, install a fuel shut off and run it out that way. Your power washers, generators, push mowers will all start right up if they are stored properly.

I hated when they stopped putting fuel valves on small equipment. I remember when they all had metal fuel tanks and a fuel petcock on every one.

That's the next thing to do.
