I haven't read through each post on this one. I found this out just this past weekend. 1970 Firebird accelerator pedal and throttle cables are one year only. Ames was the only place I could find a new replacement cable. The mounting at the pedal is what makes it a one year only piece.

It's in there but for the carb end.
The carb end uses a stud instead of a ball connector. So you would have found that out also with a 71-newer. (if carb is original)

Came across this one this morning in the 1967-76 parts manual. At first I thought maybe it was for a different tint but no because the clear glass is also listed different for 1970. Anybody know any more about this?

If I remember correctly, there's an extra hole in the 70 glass for additional hardware. When I get home I'll have a look.

Thanks for the reply. I was just double checking the number on a driver side NOS glass that's available when I noticed it. Didn't know what the difference might be and thought it might be a useful add to the one year only list.

Verified. Later glass has an extra hole at the bottom back of the glass for the rear up stop. Not sure when they went from 7 to 8 holes.

While restoring my 70 and 71 TA steering intermediate shafts, I noticed that they are clocked differently. The 70 shaft is one year only.

Lets have a Visual on Another Part of a '70 thats different. Im not really relating this to the "two Holes" for dual door switches on the DS, Im talking about the "BUMP" the holes are on. This "Body" form from Fisher is NOT on any models past 1970, that I have seen. Just parted a 09A '71 model, and its flat, so are all the rest I checked. SO .. I found this even more interesting than the obvious... ones on Quarter and package tray, etc..

Must be a very early deal only. Two '70's here right now and both are flat like the '71 you examined.
BTW, both '70's are May '70 Van Nuys. |

Both cars here are Norwood cars... ( 03 March and 04 April ) HMm.. I know Fisher had a plant there in CA, I wonder if the Body molds were different. Thanks for your Input

May Van Nuys here, both sides are flat.
There was also talk somewhere about floor plugs and how rear plugs disappeared from production by this time. However they are present in my May Van Nuys car. Like Formulabruce is thinking, and from what I've seen on other brands, I think the West coast cars differ in quite a few areas verses the Norwood cars. |

Only one of mine is in the garage right now; 04D Norwood, has the bump Bruce noted on the right hand side cowl outer, but it's flat on the left hand side. Must have been built during the "transition".
I had never noticed that before...

Here's one for the experts. The license plate bracket on the left (labeled "A") is the original that I just removed from the 04D '70 Norwood car. The one on the right was in my spare parts stash, and matches another spare I have. Both likely came from '70 models, as that's about all I've ever had.
The one on the right (labeled "B") has revised cutouts in the main stamping that enable access to the mounting studs even when the plate bracket is in the up position. Typical of GM, they both have the same part number stamped into them, even though there was clearly a design change. I suspect the one labeled "A" was an "early" style, and the one labeled "B" was the later style. Anybody else have one like "A", and if so when was the car built?

" A" is "probably " correct for up to April. The Mach car here has the Studs as part of the License plate holder ( type "A" ) and the April car has the cut outs, which used Bolts . Both had never been apart before in that area. I am bettering on a "parts change Pick order" due to redesign and possibly a different manufacture supplier. This could keep the PN the same easy enough.
This could be interesting in a concourse judging ... Hehe "Lower the Plate Sir " hehe |
