Default Autogear M23 hard 1-2 shift

I replaced the muncie in my 1966 GTO with an M23, everything went in fine but i had to purchase later shift levers (not linkage rods) because the Autogear unit has the later style muncie side cover. I noticed that 1-2 is very difficult to go in and reverse and is almost impossible 3-4 is fine. I looked up how the rods are supposed to go but something is not right. I did check the shifter alignment with the tool.

To anyone who has done something similar do i need to get later (1969) and above shift rods?

I would be more inclined to see if your clutch is fully disengaging.

Have you actually driven the car yet? It just might need a mile or two of driving to get the oil into all the nooks and crannies. After I rebuilt my Muncie it was had to get in any gear, felt like the shifter was stuck. After I drove it about a mile it now shifts very nice.
