I know I was there. You were having a good day, that day. You had the V- Max lifters in the engine, running 11.40's. Did Rick Little buy your 67 GTO? Good to hear from you!

I've really enjoyed seeing all these beautiful Pontiacs, you don't often see to many at car events, so it's great to see them here. Thank you everyone for the eye candy.

77 Trashcan,
Good memory but dates are a little off! We broke the gears in 2007 on thefirst run, but as noted, wasn’t sure what broke. It ran and drove fine and withstood several full throttle launches down the east end of the parking area. So I decided to run again, but while Kevin was waiting in line to run, I realized it had to be the ring and/or pinion. But somehow, it made it through with 3 1/2 teeth off the ring gear. So we parked it for the day. We ran some 11.30’s at Ark City in 2000. That upset several of the aginners and troublemakers on PY because I was running 64 iron heads that flowed a max of 256 cfm. You simply had to have the Edelbrock AL heads to run 11.32 at 4050# through mufflers using Rhoads and a 234 degree flat hydraulic! I got tired of the PY BS, so announced on PY that I would run 11’s with an 041 cam, standard Rhoads lifters, full exhaust, stock iron intake, and a 3.31 gear. Even “Pontiac Dude” laughed at that! When the local track opened the next spring, it took me three trips to drop back into the 11’s. And over the next 5-6 years, we ran as quick as 11.60’s with that setup. I had the stock GM 3.31 in when we blasted it at Ark City in 2007. During the 2008 season, I switched back to freshened 6X heads that flowed a max of 266 cfm with 1.71 cc port volume, 3.55 Richmond gears, RPM/QJet 234/244/112 hydraulic cam, and Rhoads adjustable lifters (V Max 9518XL) adjusted at .010 clearance. Even I was shocked when we dropped into the 11.40’s in normal Missouri weather with little or no tailwind! Will attach one evening's runs in 2009, and note the consistency. We ran very little in 2010 and 2011 due to health and age. But our last three runs in 2011 before the track closed were all in the 11.40’s at 117+. Rick Little is my nephew – no, he did not buy my GTO, but he did buy my ’69 Dart 340 in 1980 and still has it. Jim Hand Last edited by Jim Hand; 11-11-2017 at 03:03 PM. |
