Default Spark Plugs for my 64 GTO

Good Morning All,

Can you all help me with choosing the best plug for my car. It's a 389 Tri-Power, with a just slightly more wild cam. Just looking for something that will give me the best performance and economy. Starting the engine for the first time for Thanksgiving...

I have some A/C R44XLS laying around too, not sure about heat ranges though.

That year motor actually calls for a hotter 45 plug which I would audition first and see if it runs too much on the white side of tan when you get some miles on it and the first time you get the motor up to temp with them in just listen close for part throttle , or even worse full throttle ping and knock.

Plugs as used and spec from the factory have about a 300 degree F range up of down where they work fine , so unless your tune with the bigger Cam is way out of wack then you should not see a 300 degree rise in cylinder temps.
On the other hand if your thinking that your stock jetting and power piston setting even just on your center Carb is what will work great with the new bigger Cam , then your likely a bit wrong!

Most times with Cam changes these Carbs run rich at idle and low speed and somewhat lean at full throttle / high rpm , do there is no way to pin down the right plug heat range until tuning gets into the Ball park range if there is a issue to be dealt with!

I prefer the R45S.
