Im curious of anybody has there car nearby where you could take a few pictures of what can be seen looking towards the door hinges & into the back of the fenders while the doors are opened. I am in the process of detailing the backsides of my fenders & can't decide what to do with that section of the backside that would be back aways from the hinges.
Not sure if I want the to be body color, or primer. I have scoured the internet & for good reason I suppose there are really no pictures of that area.

I was first only concerned with the backside in front of the wheel wells that can be seen under the hood, but now I realize maybe the other side can be seen too.

If I recall accurately ... when I was driving mine with OEM paint ... all the areas I could see with the door open were painted body color. You'd almost think they were painted with the fenders off the car.

So can you see the metal reinforcement of the fender, the wrinkled metal part? I already have it painted, but wasn't sure how far back a person can see. For how many times I had my car together & apart you would think I would have noticed......

I have seen the front part of the fender that you can see from under the hood in both primer & body color.

I added arrows to what I think is the reinforcement sheet metal on the fender. would that be correct?

Yes, that's correct. Here's a little better view of the area I believe you are refering to.

It's a little hard to get a good picture because where my car sits in my garage, I can't open the driver's side door all the way.

Looks like if you opened the door more, the front edge of the door would most likely block more of the view anyway.

Btw, what's the silver button below your dome light switch? curious.....

Funny you mention that. I was gonna ask this question when I saw that showed up in the pic. I've had two GTO's, a 70 Vert and this 68. Both of them had this same type of lock switch which operates an alarm system. After seeing the same type of lock on this 68 as my 70, I was wondering if it could be a dealer installed alarm system or is it just a coincidence both had the same round lock assembly?

That is because they were! GM at that time did paint the cars with no front clip on, unless it was a Corvette. That is why on many original paint cars the fenders often do not match the doors.

Yup, bare dog house was painted with door and trunk lid installed but fenders, hood, balance etc were painted separately. That’s why door strikers and latches should be body color. Same goes for trunk hinges, trunk hinge bolts, tension rods and latch (exception is power trunk latch, they were installed after)
