Hello, I have ran into a really annoying problem with my 2007 Pontiac G5. I recently just got a oil change from Valvoline 1 day ago and now I get a really high pitch whining (sort of like a balloon deflating) after driving for 15 minutes or so. I've included a picture link below to show where the noise is coming from. Now I just took it up to Valvoline today to tell them I had this problem after there oil change although I made a mistake of not running the car long enough because whining didn't start yet. I take it there and they informed me its not from the oil change and told me to google it. So no luck, and it sucks because the whistling gets so loud it sounds like a 100 balloons deflating. Now im stuck here being worried because its my first ever car and I've only had it for a month. Any replies would be appreciated. Thank you.

No it usually starts after 20 minutes of driving and continues regardless if accelerating or not. Its constant unless it is turned off.

Could there be a vacuum hose off? Spray some 2+2 around the area and see if the noise changes

Make sure the oil filter cover is on tight or not missing the o-ring. from the picture you posted that where the oil filter cap is and seeing you just had the oil changed id check that first.

I'm not familiar with your engine. I assume it is a 2.2L Ecotec?

Once it starts whistling, does it stay steady or fluctuate. Does it whistle with the engine at idle?

I assume you pinpointed the exact location with the engine running at idle and checking under the hood?

Looks like your dipstick is broken, missing the Yellow pull ring?

Possibly whistling thru a hole in the top of the dipstick?

Pull the dipstick up while it is whistling, does the sound change? Cover the top of the dipstick tube with your hand, does the whistling stop?

I wouldn't rule out a problem with the oil filter cap and o-ring but my understanding is that it would be blowing oil out if the large o-ring wasn't installed properly or broke. If the small o-ring on the other end of the filter was damaged or missing, you would have low oil pressure but I wouldn't think whistling.

However, the idea that it starts whistling after the engine temp comes up (and the oil gets hot) might be a possibility. I don't know if hot oil leaking past the internal small o-ring could produce a whistle.

If my idea about the dipstick doesn't pan out, I would suggest going back to the shop while it IS whistling. They may sing a different tune if they get to hear it.

At the very last part of that audio, the noise sounded like a pulley squeeking.
IIRC, that oil filter housing is at the flywheel end of the engine though.
Can't say I've ever heard that particular squeeking noise before. I wonder if an injector would make a sound like that? Perhaps coolant squeezing through a restricted passage way like the thermostat?
Does your car have an engine temp guage? I'd say as long as the temp and oil pressure don't go to unacceptable levels, you probably don't have to worry abut the engine self destructing.
Could be coming from the torque converter I suppose. Just throwing some ideas out.
Can you hear it when you are inside the car with the windows rolled up?

When it's whistling, spray some water on the serpentine belt, if the noise stops, you've found your problem. I doubt that's the problem, though. If not, that noise is quite possibly oil leaking past the small seal, the noise is similar to an air leak past a gasket or O-ring. Like you said, "Like a balloon deflating." The only question is how much of a pressure drop is there across the filter to cause a whistle?
