In-dash Tach for 67 Lemans
I just bought the in-dash tach for my 67 Lemans from Ames. I talked to their tech folks and they confirmed it is meant to be installed in the 4th pod on the dash. Before I start the install I wanted to get some advice from the brain trust here on the forum. The tach came with nothing extra - no wires, no wiring diagram and no instrument panel lamp sockets. I'm guessing when I pull the dash, there won't be any sockets/bulbs in the original wiring harness that are designated for the 4th pod.
My first two, of what I suspect will be several questions, is 1) does anyone make a kit that will allow me to put the instrument lamps into the tach unit so it will illuminate when the lights are on?, and 2) can anyone share advice on how to hook up this tach on a GM HEI distributor so it will work properly? Thanks in advance. |

Figured I would upload an image of my ride - 455, 4-speed, 12 bolt 355 rear - fun to take on a spin around the block

That's a beauty. Very nice car. Stock color or modern color?
As for your questions, contact Mr. Peter Serio on these forums. Here's his business site- http://precisionpontiac.net/ That is, if you don't get an answer here first. 'Old Goat 67' (aka Charles) and '400 4spd' (aka Steve) come to mind as guys who would probably know also.

If you have a clock in the RH pod, you are all set. If not, you will need two snap in sockets for that tach. hooked up to the gray instrument light wires. And, one brown wire with a one amp fuse from the tach out to the coil.
Greg's correct, NICE CAR! But, I'm prejudiced.... |

OG67,
Nice car & colour scheme. The pin stripe also looks great on 66-67s, accentuates the body lines, & breaks up the large body of paint. |

Dude... we're neighbors! Mine's a '66. It looks like your body work is in a lot better condition than mine! I drive mine on weekends, all year around, so we might see each other.

My tach is in the 3rd pod from the left, next to the speedo, not the 4th pod.

The aftermarket tachs are meant to replace the clock in pod 4.

Might be true, but my original dash had a clock in pod 3. I replaced it with the tach. Maybe it was not original? Don't know I guess.

The tach should be in the 3rd pod next to the speedometer. That's where it was put by the factory.

Don't confuse this with rally gauge cluster with tach in the 3rd pod.
This is an aftermarket "separate gauge" to be used with the standard gauges and goes in the 4th pod. There's no way this can be put into the factory location. At least not without major modifications
