68 Muncie back up lamp switch & bracket
Anyone have an original back up lamp switch & bracket for a '68 Firebird Muncie trans?
Not the Camaro or '67 Firebird style. I thought I'd heard the bracket was reproduced and the switch is actually same as Mustang and correctly reproduced. Pix of original set up installed? Thanks!

Here is a pic of the original set up. Performance Years before they were bought out by Ames had the reproduction parts on their site.
I have not seen them repro parts since then. I keep a watch on ebay and did come across the correct reverse lever that I picked up. I have never seen a OEM switch holder bracket come up. I also attached some pics of mine using the reproduction switch holder. I also provided the correct clip that holds the switch. Some venders sell the longer version that you can see in my photo being used. It is to long and the correct one had the same partnumber used for the Camaro cowl induction switch. It fit perfect and correct. The 3rd photo shows the wrong style switch holder and the repro lever and switch bracket. Ames has the switch https://secure.amesperf.com/qilan/De...A&web_access=Y The switch holder is GM # 9788460 here is a repo https://www.ebay.com/itm/69-Camaro-C...9T5R2E&vxp=mtr

Thx SB! Good info.
Regarding the switch, it appears that the repro lacks the anti-rotate rib as original had. Otherwise, looks pretty good.

The one I have has that rib on one side. I had gotten mine from performance years when they were in buisiness.
Here is a reproduction that heart beat city Camaro has. It looks just like your OEM in the photo. http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/s...GM%23-3959115/ Here is a nos for 90 https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-1969-19...dYFC4H&vxp=mtr

Yep...
It appears that a very accurate repro is now out there. $17 from Summit. No need to spend $100 for an NOS switch.

My thought too. Shame the reproduction bracket is no longer made. I have been looking and can't find it anywhere. That is the last piece I'm using. I purchased the whole reproduction backup kit and have been finding OEM pieces little by little. The bracket and the lever were good quality. I sold the reproduction lever a few months back after I found the OEM one. It's a hard item to find.

According to the MPC book, the switch bracket is also used on standard 3 speed transmissions. The switch would fit in the forward receptacle hole for standard 3 speeds and the rear hole for 4 speeds.
The HD 3 speeds used a different bracket entirely. Interesting stuff....I suppose there was a clearance issue on the F body cars that required these special brackets? Edit. The MPC pages says Firebird and Tempest so I guess they were used on both models... Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk |

Oops, I was zoomed in too close on that page. The 2nd illustration from the top is all models except Firebirds. The 3rd and 4th illustration down is Firebird only. So that bracket is specific to F body models.
Looks like it was used on standard 3 speed and both 4 speed types in conjunction with a special reverse lever. Here is the complete page. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk |
