Default Changing to Ram Air

I'm considering adding the ram air setup on my 67 mainly for the cool factor. I have read on a 2 year old thread that the repop open hood scoops don't fit well on original hoods. Does anyone know if that is still the case?
Anyone have some used original scoops for sale that I could cut out?

Correct. Original scoops only fit original hoods and vice versa. I have for sure one good original scoop, may have a pair. I opened up a closed pair of scoops when I installed the R/A setup on my bird.

Thanks for the reply. If you have the pair, I would be interested.

I have a pair of originals. Passenger side is missing one stud.
I also have a really nice pair of repop closed hood scoops if anyone needs them.
PM if interested in either.

Warpath Restorations is where I got the one for my A body. Excellent quality..and I hardly ever have occasion to say that about the repop sheetmetal I've purchased over the years.
May be the one 68tpls400 is talking about because there is a member here who has a connection with the company.

Thanks.

I just searched their site and didn't see any ram air system for Firebirds.

I just checked RARE. They sell ram air systems for 65 & 66 tripowers but nothing for Firebirds.

I can't remember for sure at the moment but I think the '68 RA system is the same for 1st Gen. Firebirds.
In fact, the installation instruction sheet included with my GTO kit was copied from the factory FB manual as I seem to recall. Give them a call or contact user 'brians' on this site. I got mine through him with a good discount. In fact, the stampings for the kit were made from his originals.

This is the kit I purchased.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-1968-F...A/112628715332

I didn't cut my original closed scoops I did buy the aftermarket open ones, it is correct they don't fit as good, I just couldn't get myself to cut the originals.

Aside from the scoops I didn't get through this kit, the kit itself fit great.

That one on ebay is quite a bit more pricey than the one I purchased!
Looking at that and remembering the printed Firebird instructions included with mine, the only difference in the F body and A body RA systems is that little zig-zagged natural metal tab. It's not used for the A body.

I have been looking at that one on ebay. It is priced less than the one on Parts Place, and way less than Year One. How was the finish on the pans? The description says they should be painted. I did notice that Parts Place pans are powder coated.

I bought the kit from Parts Place a few years ago. It was done with EPD primer only and needs to painted. I also bought a repro hood from Summit Racing. One of these days I'll actually get around to painting and installing it.

I notice that this setup does not say it's powder coated but on the parts place website, the individual components, upper and lower pans, say they are powder coated.

Ram air Firebirds, my favorite subject!
(Although I will not make a comment about Parts Place and their China stuff)

1stgenbird – you must be the one from Ebay. I’ll send you a pm

the upper pan from ebay came stamped and unfinished. I primed and painted it. lower pan came painted. No idea why, likely because they were sourced separately.

I did not use the little metal tab, as it is pretty obvious to anyone that would know to look for it, my bird isn't factory, and it didn't seem to add anything to the fitment.
Not sure it'd be seen anyway.
