Default Interested in your opinion on Tire Brand / Type

Folks,

I narrowed the rearend on my 68 bird by 1 inch on each side so that I can tuck in my Vintage 15 x 8 American Racing 200S wheels with Radir spinners and 255 60 15 tires. That's what I'll be using for street driving. I do have the original posi rearend tucked away safe and sound, so no-one have a heart attack here.

My question is what brand of radial tires folks are using today. I ran several sets of BFG Radial TAs on past cars I've owned, but haven't bought any muscle car tires in a long time. I scanned Ebay and saw a lot of different brands I didn't recognize with raised white letters and of course, Dunlop, Mickey Thompson and BFG. Let me hear your comments. All opinions are welcome (even if we may not all agree). Would also love to see pics.

Old Joe

P.S. I can put 1" spacers on the narrowed rearend if I want to mount up my Rally IIs and redlines, but the only time that will happen is for a show. You really don't notice the spacers unless you look close.

I have Diamondback redline radials (Radial T/A) on all of my 'birds. I love them and the ride.

I would also take a look at the Cooper Radial GT. I have had the BFG tires in the past and I find them to be a unsafe tire to drive on.

It's interesting that you find the BFGs unsafe to drive on. Did you have a bad experience with them? I think +90% of the cars at cruise nights have them and no one has mentioned that before, that I am aware of.
I have been using them for 20+ years on my 67 Firebird and have not had an issue.
I will say the first set I ever bought in 1974 or 1975 to put on my Roadrunner kept getting bubbles in the sidewalls and I had to go through several replacement tires. That was around the time they first came on the scene, I believe.

The biggest issue is finding the correct size so your speedo isn't way off!

I find the BFG break loose to easily. The BFG tire technology is 30 years old. The tread pattern is just so outdated.

In 2007 I put Toyo PROXES T1Rs (235/45ZR17 and 255/45ZR17) on my 67 and I've been very happy with them. Granted I don't drive my car all that much but they are holding up great.

Cooper fan as well. 15” tires choices are slipping away just as the 14” did. I imagine that they will be classified as specialty in the next few years and will become as expensive as the redline radials out there.
