It was hard for me to put a car into Paint shop hell 30 miles away let alone 500.NFW I would dream of that.Just me after doing way to many cars.I have listened to every excuse of why my car got pushed behind a newer one I saw come into the shop.Tom

If that car were mine, I'd go Metallic Silver over Metallic Gray 2 - tone with pinstripe color of your choice. Also narrow blue/ silver wide double line pinstripe in honor of the "Thin Blue Line".

Our agreement right now stands at 1400 a week for a true 40 hour week. If he stops and takes a 30 minute phone call then he doesn’t bill you that 30 minutes. I know it sounds like horse**** but it’s what I’ve heard from several people about his reputation. My lifelong best friends brother lives in the Tampa area. He is going to drop in for me. I am supposed to get pictures and video every week showing progress. If I see something I don’t like he will fix it or if we are at an impasse then I am free to come get the car. He will not take forward payments. You pay for the weeks work after it’s completed. The only thing taken up front is materials. I have interviewed 6 body shops. He is the only one that I felt listened to me and took my wishes and desires into consideration. My daughter helped me assemble the frame when I got it back when she was 4. She painted the rails and rearend etc with a paint brush, yes it looks like a 4 year old did it but when she’s married and I give it to her I can say “hey that paint run on the rear frame rail is from you”. I asked a guy about NOT messing with the underside and he said “I have a reputation to uphold” my guy said “how sweet, if you want it left alone it’s your car, I’ll paint it pink if you want me to”. Just an all around professional guy. Look at the black paint on Caster1’ 66 GTO. If he can do that with black then there is no doubt in my mind the Shadow Gray will be awesome.

I know you already decided on the color but dang, copper would've been nice. I had a '75 Nova that was copper with a black interior. When I bought the car the paint was all faded and chalky and one of my friends described it as "baby diaper brown", LOL. I spent a day with some rubbing and polishing compounds and got it all shined up - looked like a freshly minted penny when I was done. A '64 would look mighty nice in that color.

Well after a day of driving the car is dropped off. The paint guy sprayed out several samples and after taking his counsel we settled on a blue/gray Ford color. It was used on trucks and Mustangs in the late 2000s. I am really pleased with the shop and the professionalism I was shown today. I know it seems like waffling on the color but rather than just punch forward with a color I liked on paper he took the time to show me how things would really look and it really helped me tie the car together in my mind.

Will you be keeping the blue interior?

No when I looked at the Tempest Custom seat covers in blue I realized they were nothing like the Lemans color. I decided to go with black.

What years and models of Fords was the color used on? Curious as to what color it actually is.

So it's a non-metal flake color?

It is Charcoal Blue Metallic. It’s got a lot of blue in it, more so than gray but it looked great sprayed on my sail panel I am really excited about all this coming together finally.

My '65 GTO is factory Blue Charcoal Poly. I had it repainted in 1985 so this paint is over 35 years old but still looks okay. It's a great color on these cars and looks contemporary today.

Blue Charcoal Poly is my absolute favorite GTO color. So sharp.

Thanks! My GTO was built in Fremont, but shipped to Spokane where it was sold to the guy who ordered it. He was transferred shortly after to Palo Alto, CA, so the car never got rusty. I think the Blue Charcoal will look great on the OP's '64. Good choice for sure.

The bodyman has contacted me 4 times today with questions about different things. All totally to do with my “vision” for the car. He said he will send pictures of the work at the end of the week, if I am pleased then I pay for a weeks work and so on. As y’all know from the other sections that I had problems with Classic Pontiac Rescue and ended up having to sue him. This guy is the total polar opposite. So far so good. He says it’s almost totally stripped and as of yet no surprises.

To have only had the car a week I am pleased by the pace, basically as long as I keep the cash flowing he keeps the work going
