Harold from UD worked at Lunati after he shut UD down because of IRS problems, they have the UD lobes also although when there their IC is not as advanced as he would do at UD. Then Bullet also got his lobes after he left Lunati. The 296/304 in my TA was when he was at Lunati.

The RAIV cam or equivalent would be the smallest flat tappet hydraulic cam I’d consider using. But it really wouldn’t be my pick especially for a stick shift car.
This 296/304 Ultradyne looks good 239/247 @ .050 .507/.530 with 1.5:1 rockers. I’d use 1.65 rockers to bump up the lift to try to take advantage of the good heads you have. https://www.lunatipower.com/street-s...8-296-304.html Just my amateur choice, it wouldn’t hurt to contact Paul K or another expert for his pick within your flat tappet budget constraints and aiming towards something that doesn’t require messing around with after you seal up the valve covers. Roller cams aren’t for everyone. If you’re not into staying on top of them, doing the lash and necessary inspection I wouldn’t run one.

If you want the performance of a roller cam you can get with reliability. It will cost you and you need to have a proper custom ground mechanical solid roller cam ground.
The BAM lifters with the DLC option are 1000$. You will not have your lash moving around. If 1000+ HP naturally aspirated engines run them, 2000+ HP twin turbo engines run them with their required valve spring pressure a little custom SR will not touch them. Its expensive but its the answer to all these hyd roller lifter failing and ruining engines. Maybe Crane will start making their fine hyd roller lifter again that would be a big help too but even they were over 700$ when they stopped making them. If you are going to run a flat tappet do not waste your time with a hyd cam. Get a custom sft. They are not a big maintenance item like some people think. As long as you have a nice set of roller rockers with USA made poly locks your engine will not be any different than the millions of sft 4-5 and 6 cylinder engines in service today. You can run a stud girdle and that gives another layer of protection from things loosening up if you want. |

After consulting everyone and their momma on here and calling every cam company that was open on Labor Day weekend I decided that too little was better than too much. I ordered the Crower 60919 from Summit. I called butler and got setup with a package for all the other valvetrain stuff I will need. They had my previous order info and knew exactly what springs, pushrods, lifters, etc to order.

Here’s video of Mr Pontiac at Norwalk in his 67 white GTO with combination I mention earlier, recap on the combo 461 ci, out box E-Heads just clean up. performer RPM intake, Q’jet and Crower 60919 cam. Scroll to 55 minute into the video, this is his 11.60 pass, with a block of wood under gas paddle to keep it from going faster then 11.60’s. Real nice street cruiser.

Maybe I missed but What are the duration and lift differences between your old HR and the 60919?
Also what do your heads flow? I’m curious what the cam change will do in terms of power? And what the drivability differences will be?

I dont have the card right here before me right now. Its substantial thought. Like the difference between almost 600 HP and maybe 450 if I am lucky

I’d say your likely to be in the 500 to 525 hp range running the RAIV cam. A stock RAIV 400 has been dyno tested at 425 hp even though it was rated at 370 by Pontiac. Seriously, a RAIV making only 4 hp more than a 366 hp RAIII D-port engine?
Your good cylinder heads will get you there even without a monster cam. Giving up 50 to maybe 75 hp at the peak that you wouldn’t been using often anyways is a small price to pay for something easier to drive and more reliable.

David have you considered the Johnson hydraulic roller offered by Butler? My builder is discouraging the use of any flat tappet lifters.

I feel pretty confident about this being as I am not using a radical cam or an exotic valve train.

Got a little behind with illness but block should be going to machine shop next week. Haven’t totally taken the old one apart. No older than they are can I reuse the head and main studs?

Yes on the head studs, for your power level you should not need the studs for the main.If all the main bolts are stock just use them and save yourself some money.JMO,Tom
