I already have main and head studs. Just want to reuse them.

Does this mic location look ok? It’s for the hands free calling on the radio

I wouldn't like it there. Maybe tucked in up in the corner of the dash or something less conspicuous. IMHO

I agree with tucking it away - maybe behind the a-pillar pad up to ceiling near sun visor

Mounting a hands-free phone mic to the steering column directly in the line of sight looks pretty goofy to me. If I was that concerned with talking on the phone while driving my classic car, I'd just get a Bluetooth earpiece and not mount anything in the car.

the only savings will be the new block should be aligned honed or at least checked with studs in place because of different clamp loads,

use stock bolts sell studs for savings

use studs work block for them = more $$

So I am still laid up weeks later and haven’t gotten much done. My brother and nephew are supposed to take what’s left of the shortblock out of the car Friday and get it to the machine shop. At this point I don’t think anything was seriously damage but I am so afraid we are gonna get it on the stand and the crank or something will be ruined.

I have always cleaned up parts with Kerosene. I have to clean out the oil pan and valley pan and oil pump and all the other little pieces that I will be reusing. What have you found to be the best "soak" to clean up and get gunk etc out of used parts. I know obviously I have to rid everything of any shavings from the failure but I want this stuff squeaky clean just like it was new when it goes back in.

The crank doesnt even need to be turned. He is prepping the block and cleaning up the parts and things. Should get all that back around Christmas if I can pay for it by then. When I get it back I am gonna have to buy rings, bearings, gaskets, etc but thats all I need. As previously stated I hope to be back on the road by March so I can go to the car show in Myrtle Beach

Best wishes to you.
Haven't done much reading in this section for a while and had no clue about your engine problem. Real sorry about the setback.

You have great commitment to your dream so its going to work out.

Back from the hospital. I am good for the time being but the car is still sitting and driving me crazy. Machinist says end of February and I will be getting it. He is going to break it in on his run stand. I am gonna cut the filter there and if all is good I will load it up and bring it home to put in. Trying to get ready for the Run To The Sun car show in Myrtle Beach. Provided I get it in at the end of February or firsts of March how many miles should I put on it before I consider it safe for a 500 mile round trip drive?
