I was watching clips of the car chase scene from Bullitt on Youtube for the millionth time
People usually go through the chase scene to count how many hubcaps come off the Charger, or how many times the same VW appears in the background, but this time I decided to look for Pontiacs. Here's a few screen grabs. I'm sure there are more, if you pay closer attention. |

Did anyone happen to see the original Hawaii Five O that aired a few months ago on one of the retro channels?
In the last minutes of the show they caught the bad guy, cuffed him, and stuffed him in the back seat of a 1966 GTO that was painted blue with white doors and police trim. It still had the GTO emblems on the rear qtr.'s. First 1966 GTO Police car I ever seen, a true classic. My wife thinks I'm crazy for pointing those things out. I love watching old shows for the cars, surely not for the acting skills.

The car that no one seems to mention in the Bullit movie and that I love almost as much as the Charger is that yeller Porsche 356...

Now that you've shown it Greg, I do remember that Porsche. If IRC, it was his girl friends car.

Yeah, he drives it himself shortly after the chase scene because his Mustang is in the shop and the SFPD doesn't have a loner in the motor pool...lol

Have you ever watched the scene and counted how many hubcaps that Charger loses? If I recall correctly, it loses 7 of them.....

This is a little off current topic but in line with OP topic.
Some high school buddies modeling off my brand new '79 Formula. I recall ordering this car with my dad just after Christmas 1978 and not receiving it until mid-March 1979. When we went to pick up the vehicle at the dealer my dad was so upset about several fitment issues he told them to keep the car and we actually went home without it, I was in shock. The next day they called and promised to fix it all, I didn't care just wanted it in the driveway. Still own this car today and now that I'm looking at the original 2-tone color scheme with decals I really like it and may change back to that look if the car ever gets repainted. |

Nice looking Formula, What color combo was it?
I had a Yellow & Black 79 that I bought new off the lot in December of 79. They were making great deals on the left over 79's if they had a V8 in them. Mine was a 4bbl 301 4-speed car. But the Michigan winters had eaten it up by 84. Traded the rusty but reliable 79 in for a brand ne 84 T/A. Worst car buying mistake I ever made.

Thanks.
Took photography in high school and we were taking and developing B&W pics, that was one of them. Original color combo was black upper and charcoal grey lower, tan or gold pin strip and camel tan interior. Repainted in '95 all one custom color the base color of which was called Dark Emerald Pearl Mica Metallic. I'm north of the boarder and in the winter we eat, sleep and s**t road salt makes me crazy. Back in the day my dad and I used old engine oil or tranny fluid as rust proofing for the first 15 years it's daily life and added the mud flaps from day one (those saved the quarters). 5 years ago I started cleaning up the undercarriage and was shocked to find the floors in perfect condition, however the rear inner and outer tail panel had practically disintegrated from rust, I replaced those last winter, it's all good now. |
