My dumb fault. I pulled the motor (straight 8) and somehow missed getting some pictures as to how the clutch linkage is arranged as it connects to the pedal.

The manual has a picture, but it is somewhat vague. If anyone has an early Poncho 49-54 at least (others might apply also... don't know) with a manual trans, I could sure use a tiny bit of help. Have an idea as to how the linkage hooks to the pedal, but just not 100% sure.

Pictures would be great.

I've searched, but no luck. I searched the ETC (Early Times Chapter) of POCI with no luck. It is just a simple setup, but not sure.

f no one else chimes in before then I can try to get some pictures tomorrow. I have a 50 fastback in my shop. My only problem is I am recuperating from cervical fusion last Monday and don't know if I can get to it. Do you need pictures from under the dash or on the firewall side?

Take care of yourself, this is not that important.

What I am not sure of is the z-bar connection to the pedal arm. The only way to see it or take a picture is from under the car. The z-bar on these old Pontiacs look like a twisted chunk of bar stock. I have the pivot points, it is just how it actually connects to the pedal arm. You would have to view it from below because where they connect is right in the small opening between the two frame rails.

The shop manual has a picture (drawing) as viewed from above, but it doesn't show a little "swing arm" piece that hangs off the pedal pivot.... What I am not sure of is how they connect.

Any help is appreciated.

That is helpful, but looking to see the other side of the z-bar. The z-bar goes through the opening in the frame to a "link" that then connects to the pedal.

Please see the pictures I have with this post. I may have solved the problem, perhaps you can confirm the connection.

There just doesn't seem to be anything really hold the z-bar to the pedal link. It just slips inside it and stays..... I guess?

One last picture.

Is this correct? The z-bar just seems to sit inside the "link". It hooks under the the pivot in the "link". I guess.

I will try again today. Would it be visible if the floor pan was out of the way? The pan in my car is about to fall out anyway.

Didn't think about the pans. I pulled the sheet metal pans when I pulled the motor. Sorry about that.

I was able to get these pictures using a cheap bore scope camera attached to my phone. I think there may be a bushing missing in your picture at the top arrow. The bottom orientation looks like mine. There is also what looks like a bushing on the z-bar where it is pinned to the bracket that bolts to the frame. But that might be the way the z-bar is built. All those points look like a good place to grease!
Pic 1 shows the bracket , pin and bushing highlighted by the yellow arrow.
Pic 3 shows the bushing in the swing arm again highlighted by the modern art yellow arrow.
I couldn't get to the backside of the swing arm pin but I would think a washer and cotter pin might go there. Then again once everything is bolted up it might just stay in place.

That is exactly what I needed to know. Yep, I am missing the "bushing" on the swing arm (I called that a link... swing arm sounds better). That "bushing" and the other one in your pics are actually FELT. There is three total in the system. One on each connection end of the z-bar pivot and the one on the swing arm. I'm missing that one on the swing arm for sure. I would assume they are felt so as to hold lubricant. Hmmm

Now to find a FELT ring.
