You may be able to lower the rpm around 300 by using JD normal viscosity Hygard (if you're not already using it that is). Must have a mesh screen filter in the trans though.

Agree. I was thinking two names Marty Chance or PTC, both have worked with tons of applications like this.

32" and mighty tight in the space I provided.. A taller tire might work

181mph x 3.50 x 336 divided by 32" is 6651RPMS with no slip at all. So for sure with the 3.50 gearing you are "pushing" thru the converter some and it's needs to be tightened up a bit to get rpm's down at the finish line.

Some companies will "re-work" converters, but most these days prefer to build from scratch. This simply happens because they will have documented results based on their own "recipe" with combinations of parts used in each unit. It starts with the converter diameter and how good of a pump it is, then moves on from there using components to effectively use that amount of flow and turn it into work.

Pretty tricky stuff and I've tested a LOT of converters to date. I still find it amazing the amount of difference one can achieve with the same housing but changing the internals parts, clearances, etc.

Engine power is always a BIG factor in how well any converter will work, as they respond to engine power as differently as they do resistance to movement applied by gearing, tire diameter, traction and vehicle weight.

You may end up just choosing another company and running with what they put together unless Hugh's can take their unit and do better with it. In any case currently it's obviously not holding the power well showing that much slippage on the top end of the track. Even with that said changing tire diameter and/or gearing will reduce the tendency for the engine to "push thru" the converter as-is, so often it's more than just re-working or getting another unit based on the other items involved that effect converter efficiency............Cliff

I will stick with Hughes for any new converter. As I mentioned in an earlier post, they redid my NA converter to make it work, at my request.

They thought a re-do of the NA converter would be worth a try and it worked fine until I went to 10% over on the blower on my last pass. With more info to go on, they'll probably recommend a different unit and that will keep my RPM down at the line.

Thanks for the link, Stan. Sometimes I forget Yellow Bullet is there.
