Wink

Drove the car today. No rattles, creaks or moans. Still need to refinish the glass tops themselves, but the car itself is good to go.

Is that your classic 67-72 Chevy pickup, also?

Thank you all.

Trashcan-That is my 1972 Cheyenne Super with factory A/C, 402, TH400, tilt, tach, AM/FM. It was top of the line for its time.

Way Cool!
I have a 67 C10 LWB, getting a 406, disc brakes, looks aweful, but I like it and I have a 68 C10 LWB golden anniv. pickup. 396/TH400?PB/PS/AC in need of complete work over. I'm making progress...

Nice looking P/U. Its funny comparing top of the line truck in '72 to top of the line now! It was nice being able to open both doors and taking a hose to clean out the mud though.

One of my local Pontiac buddies has I think a '72 truck maybe a Longhorn edition top of the line with an extra long factory bed. BBC powered.

Cool

It was a nice spring day (finally!) I spent the entire day polishing the glass, sanding the metal surround, priming, sanding, repeating several times, then painting with SEM trim paint. After it cured, the top was treated to new Metro weatherstrip, and Phoenix stripe.

What process did you use to polish the glass? They look fantastic.

https://www.eastwood.com/glass-polis...ches-5658.html

or

https://www.eastwood.com/pro-glass-polishing-kit.html

I used the Eastwood glass polishing kit. The first kit is for deeper scratches that can catch your fingernail. The other kit is for hard water damage, or light scratches. They restore the brillance of the glass. Caution must be used to not polish too much to cause an optical distortion, or crack the glass due to heat buildup. Also, the slurry is very messy. That crap gets slung everywhere!

I have owned this car for two years. It has never gotten wet since that time.

I am well aware of the Hurst Hatches design flaws-mostly centered around leakage. I took every precaution during assembly, and everything that is available new has been replaced. If this was to be treated as a daily driver, I would have never even considered this modification.

Thanks for the info. I will have to look into that stuff. I asked a glass guy awhile ago about polishing them and he said he was afraid that the heat from polishing would cause them to break. I will keep that in mind.
