Well, even tho I didn't do any of the work on this build, I am involved in it. And I have more time to post than the guys who did the work. So, I'm gonna start it & supply all the info I can. The guys who did the work can answer questions and add whatever they'd like, as they have time.
As many of you already know, the idea for this build came from a long time member here, who posts as J.C.you. He & his neighbor & longtime Pontiac sidekick & racing buddy, who is also a member here, did most all the work. I live just a few miles from them, and we were schoolmates. For this thread, I'll refer to them as JC & Randy. First, for all who don't know what a Pontiac ET was, don't feel bad. Until I saw it mentioned here, I'd never heard of it either. Apparently, the ET was proposed, and a prototype built, but it never went into production. From what I've read, it was supposed to be a poor mans GTO, based on a base model Tempest, with a 350HO for power. It had side stripes, similar to the Royal Bobcat stripes. Also had a hood tach, in the normal position, plus a tach shell on the other side of the hood, which was used as sort of a mini-cowl induction scoop, which was connected to the air cleaner by a hose. Here's what my Google search turned up for the ET. https://www.pontiacv8.com/articles/2...e-demonstrator http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2009...ontiac-et.html https://www.hemmings.com/magazine/mu...-/3723471.html http://www.hotrod.com/articles/1969-pontiac-gto-judge/ |

My part of this deal began back in 2009, when I bought a '69 Post Tempest, that had been built as an NHRA 350HO powered Stocker. When I 1st heard about it, and found that it was located in Ruston, LA, about 30 min from me, I called Harrel, who is a Pontiac guy & has a Tranny shop in Ruston. He not only knew about the car, but had actually found the body for the guys who built it into a Stocker.
Anyhow, I checked the car out & bought it, for Bracket racing duty. Bought a Ford diesel CC dually, and a 2-car gooseneck, planning to do lots of racing during the 2010 season, with the Tempest and my '74 Ventura. But, as (bad) luck would have it, our local track did not open at all in 2010. ![]() Here's some pics of the Tempest, when I owned it, They were taken inside the old cow barn, which I've used as a shop & for parts storage, since about 2007. The Chevy guy I bought it from had put a Performer Intake & Holley carb on it, but put the original Q-jet back on it, and knocked off $500 to keep his Holley, which was great with me. ![]() That's all the online time I have for today. Will try to post more when I can. Last edited by ponyakr; 04-26-2018 at 01:11 PM. |

That's an electric motor that turns the water pump.

Yeah, nowadays most Stockers run a Mezerie elec pump.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/m...w/make/pontiac The Moroso set-up is much cheaper, but doesn't cool near as well. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mor-63750/overview/ Last edited by ponyakr; 04-27-2018 at 10:05 AM. |

JC considered making some sort of GTO tribute with the car, at one time. So, he stuck a GTO hood & bumper on it. The 1st pic below shows it in this form. It's sitting in Randy's yard, not too far from his shop, where most of the work on the car took place.
The 1st plan was to just get the car street legal, so it could be used as a street/strip car. Was supposed have a quickie paint job in pewter. But, as many plans do, this one morphed into something far different. He decided to do a frame off resto, and do away with most of the race set-up. So, the last 2 pics below show the body, in primer, on the lift in Randy's shop. Last edited by ponyakr; 04-27-2018 at 10:39 AM. |

I think you have a great idea of building something Pontiac was thinking of building! Please post photos of the finished product. Thanks, Jimmy

While preparing the frame, an anti-roll bar was added. JC has had success with this system for traction.

When the body & frame were put back together, it was taken to a local body shop, for some black paint.

Well, it wasn't finished, but the guys pulled an "all-nighter", and made it to the local car show.

Very cool ponyakr! Tell me more about your wheel tire combo. That's the look I want for my 69 GTO.

I think JC mentioned that the wheels are alum, if I remember correctly. But, I don't know exactly what brand or where he bought 'em. He also may have mentioned that he had to make a way to hold the cap on, but can't remember for sure. I do remember that he said the back wheels are 10" wide, the back tires are Nitto, and the wheels have some sort of spacer or adapters behind 'em. Smooth steel wheels are available in lots of sizes, if the smoothie look is what you want. https://www.uswheel.com/products/rat...lack-series-65 https://www.summitracing.com/search/...4%2B4294789496 He also said that he applied the red lines himself. Cheaper than buying the resto red line tires. And the Nitto tires are supposed to be pretty sticky. I don't have a clue what the final engine will be. JC said it's based on a 428. But can't say if it'll be a stroker, or mild, or wild. Should be a bit more tame than the 525 alum block that's in it now. But, for any more details, JC or Randy will have to provide that, when they can. They both work & have a lot of projects goin on, so don't have much spare time to read & post, like I do. But, our home internet system is getting low on gigs, for this pay period. So, I'm at the library now. They're closing, so I'll have to wrap it up for now. ![]() JC just sent me some more build pics by Email. So I'll try to post 'em tomorrow. Last edited by ponyakr; 04-27-2018 at 06:22 PM. |

I've probably mentioned here before how much I hate body & paint work, especially the sanding part.
![]() ![]() But, for decent looking paint, lots of sanding is required. Last edited by ponyakr; 04-28-2018 at 11:37 AM. |

But it wasn't all just body & paint work. Don't have any idea how many man-hours the boys put in on it. But, it was a LOT !
