Still concerned about this
Quote:
What that does to cylinder fill is drastic. And would explain the low power and the rapid drop in the power curve. Harder you push it the worse it would get. Clay

77poncho,
You said that you want to keep the shaker scoop. I know it looks cool, And I love having mine on the car, but they can be a restriction for incoming air. Not sure if the mods I made to mine will help you, but it sure woke up my engine. And yes it fits under the scoop. |

Thanks for thinking of me. Last few weeks have been a zoo. My mother in law was very ill and was in the hospital about 10 but ultimately passed. Very sad. Been extremely rough to say the least. But on a better note. Just tonight a about 2 hours ago I finished up with a few things on the car. My exhaust was bottoming out a bit and next week planning to take the car to the wildwood fall classic car show. So main focus tonight was raise the exhaust a bit. Seemed to help. And secondly. We did put a rod down one of the spark plug holes and I tried to keep it on same spot while my buddy rotated the engine by hand. And I had a marker on a fixed point and measured tdc ti bdc and measured the distance and it's at 4.25 so there for I feel confident it is a stroker. I didn't have time to pull shaker off tonight. I will hopefully have time tomorrow to do that and check secondaries. I was really concerned I got screwed and it was a 3.75 stoke. I will hopefully follow up with an update tomorrow.

For interest note the formula here to compute the minimum size filter required....
https://www.knfilters.com/filter_facts.htm Out of interest I talked with a tech rep at K&N about the air flow requirements for my 505cid engine and if the small air cleaner I'm using is adequate. According to their formula a 505 cubic inch engine at 6000 rpm requires about 745 cfm of air flow. Because of hood clearance issues I'm using a small diameter K&N filter assy with the K&N X-Stream filter top. According to him both used together will support about 650 cfm. So he said on the street I'm fine. If I went to the track I would just remove the air cleaner. That said, because it's a street combo I don't think it matters much even if it makes peak power at 5900/6000 rpm on the dyno. .

Those roller tipped rocker arms are garbage. I owned 67 gto with a stock 335 horse engine it ran good, idle at 20 inches vacuum, timing was set at 30 total 12 initial motor ran good but was lacking power. It turned out the throttle cable wasn't pulling the secondaries open, I adjusted the cable to get the secondaries open night and day difference, The gto went from 20 foot burnouts to 200 foot burnouts in 5 minutes.

Things have. Been to say the least a bit crazy and hectic. Since my last post. I have at least driven the car quite a bit. Great for stress relief if nothing else. I did make to the wildwood nj car show. That was good to get away for a few days. From my place about 140 miles each way. Drove great. But again not power it should have. This quieting down a. It last week or so. And hope to check the easy stuff. Throttle cable. choke. Etc.
