Default Front Grills

For a 72 GTO, endura bumper, I know the inside of front grills were painted argent silver..
How about the outside part of grills?
Were they left unpainted or painted black?

Thanks to all

The grill mesh is unpainted (natural), but will look dark grey when installed. The grill surround is painted argent silver (matte, not glossy). The very front part of the grill surrounds are polished (chrome appearance).

Thanks gto4door, but I think you misunderstood my question.
I'm asking about the outer part of grills, the part you dont really see unless you open the front hood.
