Default QuadraJet for 1968 Tempest 350 HO

Does anyone have a recommended source for a Q-Jet for my 350 "HO" project. It doesn't have to be numbers matching, it just needs to be a divorced choke and to work properly with my engine and auto trans.

Thanks!

Fly ... post this in the "street" section and you'll get immediate responses. There are at least a couple of reliable sources for well built Q-jets.

Guessing that you are looking for a bolt-on / ready-to-run carb ?

7028266 is your number
-262 or -268 would be good substitutes and much more common.

Some others would be
(69) 7029262 & -268
(70) 7040262 & -264 & -268

Can search eBay and might find an NOS unit
PY member Carbking probably has them rebuilt to specs on his shelves

The 7028266 should be the cheapest overall.
Google that and see what hits
Even try searches on here in the Parts For Sale sections.

Wouldn't buy from a mass rebuilder / generic parts store box unit.
Most of those are screwy and random pieces with strange calibrations.

Correct. Ideally, I'd like to get a "plug and play" unit. I'm not really a carb guy, but I'm learning as I go.

Would a 350 unit have different jets/rods than one of the 400s?

I've got several '67 to '70 Pontiac Q-jet cores. Send me a PM if interested. I can recommend a good rebuilder / restorer as well.

On a 68 350HO , yes a little different - but acceptable.
69 350HO used better heads & cam - and the same carb as 400's . iirc

If you are - or will be - rebuilding the engine , you might want different specs than pure stock anyhow , for optimum.
Exhaust upgrades figure in too.
etc ..

Then you have today's ethanol blend fuels -
you want a fresh kit that addresses ethanol.
Like a kit from Cliff Ruggles or Carbking

Anyone use I-5 Automotive? They seem to have a good selection on their EBay store.

Yes, the engine is headed for rebuild as soon as I get my ducks in a row. It's nothing fancy, I'm just looking to get an honest 300HP out her.

You'll likely have a little bit more cam than stock specs.
Maybe a better air breather/ air cleaner
And better exhaust - larger diameter pipes.

400 specs will be more in your range.

Best scenario would be get any good core 67-70 Poncho
Maybe shoot for a 68 model just for the effect.

You'll need to know your cam selection and type of exhaust system
Then consult Cliff Ruggles for best specs - and buy the carb kit/parts through him.
Then have a Non-Resto rebuild performed

Cliff stays way too backed up and has long waiting list.
Carbking quit rebuilding - just sells restored carbs and parts.
There are several other real reputable rebuilders that others can give good references on.

I-5 Auto is just taking orders off ebay - then building a carb to that basic original specification. You don't get a 7028266 - just a garden variety built to those specs.
Probably not best scenario overall.

I had my mechanic buddy do my quad on my 68 Lemans HO...also got rid of the points and went to a Pertronix, then did full mandrel 2.5 inch exhaust with Dynomax mufflers...the car pull like a 350 horse GTO now. The engine has never been rebuilt and it has 123,000 miles on it.

I love the 350 HO ... stout engine, reliable, no drama.

An indicator that cubes don’t affect factory jetting selection much is that in 69 the 350 HO, the GTO and GP 400 and the 428-370 and the 428 HO all used the exact same carb from the factory.

Something always worth considering is going slightly richer than stock jetting, especially if you are running stock compression. Slightly richer jets help with pinging issues. Of course you’ll use a bit more fuel.
