I just looked, the repop air cleaner decal I bought is "PP"?

It looks like Ames only offers one - and they don't spell out what the code is.

I did buy this "PP" decal once already along with another and have them marked as "L78" or "L74"...

I must have bought the others from CI one of the times I went to their Huntington Beach location;
One is the same PP, the other is RR - their catalogs show the two listings.

The adhesive pattern from the GM filter decals is common on original air cleaner bases, any year. But one thing I've noticed is that sometimes there's multiple decal pattern, even as many as 3 in same location, not all exactly the same size. I'm not sure if these decals ever came with filters themselves, swap a new decal when serviced and date, or perhaps a batch of aircleaner bodies that were destined for one vehicle being used for another, Firebird vs TA where different filter elements used in same base.

No, RM is the standard 1970 Formula air cleaner w/no vent hole.
No one reproduces it with the correct number.
PP is incorrect for any '70 air cleaner, that I know of.
RR ('6601) is the 1970 Ram Air air cleaner decal.

Vent hole for the valve cover vent tube on the passenger side of the air cleaner is closer to the snorkel on a 70 vs 71

The '70 Formula 400 and '71 Formula 400 air cleaners I've measured were the same. 1-1/2" from the edge of the square hole to the edge of the snorkel flange.

The person that took over Jim Osborn Reproductions (probably the ones that were sold to you by Ames and Classic) posted that they were revamping some of the ones they reproduce to make them better. He didn't want to bothered to make new ones if they didn't sell large volumes. Because the Keep Your GM Car GM decals were pretty specific to the make/model/application, '70 Pontiac alone probably had over 14 decals. He would have to pay royalties to GM on each of the designs.

Must be a very early 71 formula because they change the hole and moved it farther away early on in the 71 model year

I'll look in my books. The only thing I saw before was on the standard 455 Formula, a different vent tube was used between A/C and non-A/C.

Definately different , Ive checked many of them . But your right on the early 71s will have the closer hole .

so are the fuel lines different on a 70 than other years. as far as diameter size etc... as many of these cars that I have owned I never pay attention to details like these.
