Default Question - Sears Automotive Analyzer 244.21033

I need to check the dwell on my Firebird, but I don't have the manual. Does this analyzer need batteries to check the dwell? Also, does this just connect to the coil?

I have model # 161.2182. Not sure if it's the same. I think it's powered from the car battery.

There is no green wire, just black and red. It's not mine (father-in-law), so I didn't want to try it out and blow it up. The batteries must power the meter then. I'll ask him when I get a chance.

I think it's powered when hooking up the red wire to the neg side of the coil and black to battery ground. Don't recall any batteries required.

I found some batteries and nothing worked. Pulled the front panel and checked if the meter worked by quickly touching a battery cell to the meter....it worked. There must be something internal/ Without schematics, can't go any further. Going to buy one.
