Ponyakr,
All those cars were Can Am, with shaker hoods & Opera side windows (1975-1677 ) Carroll Warling has a S/S 1975 in Denver, Co. That is very fast & he's a good friend of the Burton's ???? * The other 1977 firebird that was fast ( Tibor's ) old car is somewhere in Tenn. and was a 350 ci & very fast, and gave us 4 hp back then ??? Yes, I think it's still a better combo than the 400 ci ??? |

Thanks again for your info Dave !
" All those cars were Can Am, with shaker hoods & Opera side windows..." Maybe we are not talkin about the same cars. The two that I know of were raced by Don Elgin & Don Turk. The 1st pic below is the Don Elgin car. Looks to have a plain hood. I have it listed as a '75 model Grand Am. The next pic is the Don Turk car. I have it listed as a '74 Gran Am, It appears to have the same hood as a '73 GTO. No shaker scoop sticking up thru either hood. The only year model I've ever seen listed as a Can Am, is the 1977 model. They DO have a shaker scoop, which looks just like a Trans Am shaker scoop, as shown in the 3rd pic below. I've never seen one of those cars in Stock or SS competition. The last pic shows the hood on a '73 GTO. Looks just like the one on the '74 Grand Am. But, the nose & grill are different on the GTO. This article says that GTO hood was optional on the '73-'75 Grand Am. http://www.tachrev.com/GrandAm1973-75.htm Here's more info on the Can Am. http://www.tachrev.com/CanAm1977.htm Last edited by ponyakr; 11-02-2018 at 11:09 AM. |

Scott Burtons BS/A Firebird is at the Vegas race. It is being driven by the new owner.
I had a head gasket fail at the National event. Norman Warling |

Thanks for the update ! Sorry about the problem you had.
I had no idea Scott's Bird was even for sale. I see now that the car is listed as being driven by Thomas Strand, from Soderhamn SW. I suppose that explains the 8000 permanent number, since there are only 7 NHRA divisions in this country. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop |

Looks like Leo Glasbrenner joined the Pontiac party, with both his cars.

Just watched SS E-1. Robert Cruzen, Scott Burton, & Leo Glasbrenner won.

Looks like 3 Pontiac Stockers survived E-2.
https://www.nhra.com/results/2018/lu...ock-eliminator Leo had the only Pontiac SS car to survive E-2. So, he moves on to E-3, in both his cars. https://www.nhra.com/results/2018/lu...ts/super-stock |

Just watched a round of Stock, on D3TV. Leo, Randi Lyn & Thomas Strand all survived.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop The announcer said that Leo had previously had "For Sale" on his car, but it is gone now. So, he didn't know if the car is sold, or not for sale any more ? Last edited by ponyakr; 11-04-2018 at 04:34 PM. |

Leo lost round 3 of SS.
Noticed that his car is no longer yellow & white. It's now blue & white. Sorry to report that all the Pontiacs have now been knocked out of competition. Last edited by ponyakr; 11-04-2018 at 05:30 PM. |

NHRA Finals
The last national event of the year is underway.
There are 4 familiar Pontiac names on the Stock Q-2 list. Scott Burton is listed driving his '70 B/SA Bird. Don't know if the sale fell thru, or he's just driving it at this race for the new owner. Oops ! Missed Tommy Brown. He has the highest qualified Pontiac Stocker. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop Also 4 familiar names on the SS Q-2 list. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop |

NHRA Finals
Out of all the Pontiacs at this race, the Stockers driven by Leo & Randi Lyn were the only round 1 survivors. Not a great day for Pontiac, so far.
