Default Vacuum pics?

I got my carb back and it was installed yesterday. It is starting and running but I’m not sure my vacuum hoses are connected properly.

I hope this makes sense but:
1. Vacuum advance to front drivers side of carb?
2.Stock intake has a small metal fitting in front of carb goes to air cleaner?
3. Pass side of carb has a vacuum but plugged?
4. Back of carb has a stud that screws into it with two vacuum vents-One to power brakes and other plugged?
5. Rear passenger mounting bolt is also a vacuum but plugged?

My idle seems a bit high but I don’t want to mess with it knowing I most likely have this stuff screwed up. I’m pretty sure hoses weren’t directed properly when I got it so.

I've seen the hollow mounting studs before.

Default This’d help

68 400 ho
Manual trans
Power drum brakes, power steering
Has hideaways but not factory hideaways car. I’m not sure if I even have the right headlights switch to control them.

I know I’m missing the rear vacuum control unit for whatever reason and hoses from the tvc in front. I bought it this way so putting pieces together.
Ordering parts n219hjf and n213d from Ames today.

I’m not all sure what I need or I’m missing. There is no vacuum hose connected on rear of vacuum advance either.

The carb bolt is original and does have a vertical hollow opening at top. Nearly all the vacuum points are all plugged off so that can’t be right.

The retard hose/function was deleted in a late 68 service bulletin.

The two ports on the TVS that service the retard function were looped. One hose went to the rear of the vacuum can, one to the ported vacuum source on the lower, left, front of the carb. The two TVS ports that were hooked up to these hoses were then looped with a short piece of hose.

If you look really close at your TVS it will have tiny letters next to the ports showing where things go.

Some info in this thread: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...=820425&page=2

TVS port lables and position in photo below.

DA= Dist. Advance (front of Dist vacuum can)
CA = Carb Advance port (On the 702 I think it's on the right side base ? )
MI = Manifold Vacuum
DR = Dist. Retard (port at rear of vacuum can)
CR = Carb Retard ... (ported source lower, front, left side of carb)

Is the retard/hose function the same as the distributor vacuum control part?

Am I right in needing that part n219hjf? We’re there any other parts you could see I’m missing?

I’d prefer not to spend $109 for it I don’t really need it.

My hoses are really old looking so ordering tvc hose kit.

Thanks for that nice breakdown on where the hoses go!

That passenger side rear hollow stud is correct for '68 as far as I know. I don't know what it goes to though.

Looks like the hoses on your TVS are hooked up wrong. The two top ports need to be looped to each other. And disconnect anything hooked up to the back of distributor advance can. The advance can on the distributor has two port, on the front (advance), one on the back, hard to see (retard). It does not need the retard hose hooked up.

The TVS port labeled M1 in the photo can be hooked up to any manifold vacuum port, like the one sticking out the back of the carb, or the hollow right rear stud.

The TVS port labeled CA in the photo goes to the carb advance port (should be on the lower (base plate) right side of the carb.

The TVS port labeled DA goes to the port on the Distributor Advance Can ... the port on the front of the can that is easy to see.

Someone who has a manual transmission will have to chime in about the part n219hjf, it is only used on manual cars and I don't know how necessary it is.

If top two get looped-is that dr/cr?

If cr is looped with dr, does the front left side of carb just get plugged then?

VT is nothing?

Right now I think my front side of vacuum advance is going to front drivers side of carb, not DA. I’ll run MI to that power brake stud.

I’m not a mechanic so I wrote out in pic what I think this looks like.

Looks like you have it right.

Yep, top to should be DR and CR.
And yes, just plug the port on the front left side.

VT is vent, no connection.

Not a huge deal having the dist. advance hooked up to the ported vacuum source on the front side of the carb ... you'd lose some degrees of vacuum advance that way, but it should still run.

Hopefully someone else will chime in and double check our work.
