can anyone tell me what the original insulation was made of, and color, on the 73-74 super duty's pump to carburetor line?

Many years ago (early 1990s) I went & looked at an all original low miles 1973 455SD trans am. Car was metallic Dark green with a Tan deluxe interior. 4 speed car. This car had around 7,850 miles on it at that time. The car was not for sale. I just was at the guys house looking at some other parts he had.

The metal fuel line running from the pump to the carb had a molded black/ very dark grey semi-hard shell foam molded around it very similar to what you would see on some GM car A/C lines to keep them from rubbing.

Great, thanks for the reply. I think that's stuff is very similar to what the hardware store carries as pipe insulation. The new line I picked up from inline tube has a small OD tight rubber covering that just doesn't look right.

1977-79 W72 400's also had the insulated fuel line. The repops are OK, but not the same as the original. The outside diameter of the repop is too small. Again, there is no reason for this other than utter laziness!

The insulation definitely has depth and width. It stands out away from the metal line at least 1/4" if not 3/8" all the way around. Typical of modern replacement parts. GM most likely had a special expanding foam mold to create that insulation around the metal line. Something that would be very costly to replicate today.

I modified my original line so as to have a fuel filter in line before carb,in straight section below alternator. The remaining original insulation is bigger in diameter than what was offered by our host. Approx same color. My 2cts.

Would it be possible for someone to post a pic of this in place?
