I have an older Sirius radio setup that has the options for AM/FM, CD and Sirius. Also, there is an additional box that connects to the radio and to the satellite antenna.

It all works but is getting close to 20 years old.

My question is, does the authorization code reside in the radio or the black box connected to the radio.

If memory serves me correctly it is on the black box.

The reason I ask is, since adding the A/C, I have lost the glove compartment space where the radio was located.

So I am looking for somewhere I can put the radio other than on top of the console or another style unit, small, that can be hidden/less visible, maybe in the trunk. Using the existing "black box" for the Sirius signal.

I think there is a channel you can hit that brings up the code. I am in the middle of a long fight with Sirius presently. I bought 2 lifetime subscriptions many years ago. A month or so ago one of the radios stopped getting a signal. I called and they said the radio does not exist and they have no record of me having a subsc. Many hours on the phone with customer service with no results. At the same time the 2 yr. subsc. in my wifes car was ready for an update. I paid to renew and they charged me over $800 ! back charges for the subscription that I let go that was in my pickup. I have not had it working for several years, letting it drop because I no longer wanted it in that vehicle. AND the radio in my wifes car still doesn't work!!Still cant get ahold of anyone in customer service to help. All calls go to overseas and they are just answer people. I have considered going to the states attorney general, not sure what else I can do. At one time I had 2 lifetimes, and 2 yearly subscriptions, and couldn't live without it. Now all they are to me is a bunch of crooks.

I had a one year subscription back in 2003/2004 but since I wasn't driving the car much then, I cancelled my subscription.

The receiver still gets the signal after all this time. Even after not using for extended periods of time with no power. Each time I powered the system up it continues to work. I keep expecting the signal to be blocked when I get into the car.

If the system ever dies or the signal is eventually blocked I may go with one of the retro radios that look like the original AM radio, with blue tooth to connect a smart phone or other device for music.

I really only listen to a couple channels on Sirius anyway, so not tragic when it finally stops.

egads Terry, that sucks.

I had a hiccup last fall with my sirius (in my '09 Cobalt's radio that I bought a lifetime subscription for back in 2010);
The subscription stopped, I called, and showed proof of having paid for a lifetime subscription - it probably helped that my radio was still listed in my account - sure enough a couple days later they found and "fixed" the bug, and my radio has worked since.

Its my fault as I have no proof that I bought the subscriptions. However they do show the one on their books. What really grinds my gears is that even after giving them the model no., serial no. and anything else associated with the second radio they still say that unit does not exist. Biggest problem is there is no one to talk to.

I once had a Sirius/XM subscription with automatic payment via credit card. I decided to cancel for a couple of reasons: very often, the channels I listened to to was on about a 2 hour loop. Same music all day long gets monotonous. When it wasn't in a loop one particular song from a performer I didn't listen too was played several times a day when songs I liked were only played once.
First attempt at cancelling was ' This is sales, I'll connect you to the proper department' Then 'hold' music, then, click....dial tone. Calling my CC company they cannot refuse payment initiated by me. Only the vendor can do that. Cancelling CC was an option, but a big PITA. Took a few more calls to Sirius and not letting the guy put me on hold and insisting he do the cancellation finally got it done.
I have put music from my cd's onto my ipod. When I come across music that I don't have, I will buy it on line and add it to my library.

I had it for years and I just got rid of sirius xm a few months ago because of the constant artist fees going up up up its BS
