Vent window channel weatherstrip
Assembling my vent windows & am wonder if those of you have have changed the channel seal, & left the original lower section. Seems it was built that way on purpose, maybe to allow the window to roll up/down easier? The replacement is full length, but I am planning of cutting it off to fit like the originals as the lower section is in great shape.
Any thoughts?

I cut mine so it matched how the original seal worked. The felt lining on one assembly was in very good condition so I reused it. The other vent window assembly was in poor shape so I scraped out the lining and installed new.
I bet if you shoved the seal into that lower channel the window would bind up. It's a very tight fit. I think everyone has to cut theirs to match the OE length. |

Thanks! I ended up doing the same. The more I thought about it there was no point in a seal like that below the top of the door seeing the lower section was in great shape. Looked like the only way it could be used full length was to remove the lower existing channel by drilling out the rivets anyway & I didn't want to do that. I did put a little weatherstrip adhesive at the bottom of the new top section to keep it from moving.
Both side of mine looked to be in nice shape, but boy they were hard as a rock. Had to break them out of the channel in pieces. The ones on the leading edge of the quarter glass were the same way.

If you're referencing the window assembly, which side do you need and Hardtop, Convertible or Sedan?
Firebird or A/B Body? Never mind, just saw your second post. So Hardtop or convertible.?

I've got an NOS one of these laying around somewhere, not sure if it's left or right but I'm thinking it's the right side since the pair of repops I bought for my dad's 68 was because his driver's door weatherstripping was all broken up. Anyways, the NOS one is definitely only the small piece, not a full cut to length item like the repop. I also left the original lower section in when I did his car, it looked way too tight to remove the original and get that piece in and have the glass still move after the squeeze. The repop upper molded piece is pretty sad compared to an original. I'll have to find that NOS one.

Hmm. I thought you were referring to the vent window frame itself. I tossed the channels last spring.

what exactly are you after here? the channel that's part of the vent window frame?
Pretty sure I've got a pair of vent window assemblies somewhere in my piles out in the sheds. |
