Steet or comp gears
What is everyone using and at what power level?. Combo is 3000lb car, 1000-1100hp, 9", leaving on trans brake. Thanks in advance

At that power level, the softer, competition gears will be the better choice. The material is somewhat malleable, able to absorb much greater shock load than the hardened street gears without fracture. The down side is they wear rather quickly, teeth bend slightly and get noisy. In our 3000 lb. car with a clutch LENCO, I had to change ring and pinion every three seasons on average. They do continually shed some metal, so frequent lube changes are needed to keep the bearings alive. I changed lube every 2 race events. We used a Strange 9" with large pinion support and Richmond Pro Gears.

I have street gears in my Dana 60....they don't make a 3.73 ratio in pro gears. Have only broken them once since 1993!

Use the Pro gear.
