Sorry I never got back to you. The ground will work on any hole you use on the head, but on my ‘73 15K mile car the ground strap is in the upper hole directly above where Steve’s is bolted. It’s in the same place on my ‘78. The ‘78 engine has been out, but I’m sure we documented the hole where it was originally located.
Again semantics, but thought I would share. |

So were two ground wires used on these cars? My 74 has an insulated cable from the lower right transmission bell bolt to the body next to the sub frame. It also had the same cable you show on the passenger head but with a connector of some sort attached to the fire wall near the distributor.

I don't recognise the terminal end that makes it removable, but that doesn't mean anything either.

That looks to be the ground strap used on the operational shakers (70 to 72). It screws to the underside of the shaker base and the detachable end goes on the firewall so it can be removed to allow the shaker to come off the car easier for tuning, etc.
I've been looking for one of those ends, or the whole strap. Unfortunately they don't reproduce them |
