Default 79 TA Steering Wheel install

I took the wheel apart so i can replace the directional switch
i put it back together and now in my old age questioning a few things
i don't recall removing a retaining clip on the nut under the horn button (the big 3/4 bolt that is removed to remove the horn button that the center cap connects to (not removing the adaptor)
i just unscrewed it and used a wheel puller to pull the adapter off
is there some sort of clip for the big bolt?

when i connected the battery back up the horn was going off
i loosen that bolt and it stops
if i tighten it tighter it goes off
i think i installed everything in reverse order from what i took off
do i only tighten that bolt a certain amount and is there supposed to be a locking clip or something?

i have the locking clip on the part that is under the adaptor that holds the steering wheel lock mechanism

i looked at Ames catalog and NPD catalog and dont see anything about a locking clip

just making sure i dont screw something up
seems wierd not to have one, but then again how the heck do i install it with that deep column adaptor?

thanks

No, there's no retaining clip on the nut to steering shaft. Torque the nut to 35 lb/ft.

But, if the horn blows when you tighten it, you need to remove the hub and see what's wrong. Should be a horn contact pin that is locked into a plastic tube, which is part of the turn signal switch. The plastic tube with pin should insert into a hole in the bottom of the hub when you install the hub. The plastic insulates the pin from the hub. If the pin is out of place and grounding out on the hub, the horn blows.

i think i had muscled it down way to much, a slight back off and problem went away
pulled a few things apart to double check and everything is now back and working fine

just doublechecking i didn't mess clips or something up
