4-Wide Nats
Chris Stephenson was #6, & Randi Lyn Shipp was #12, on the Stock Q-1 list.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop Looks like Chris has a good chance for an F/SA class win, unless the next quickest F/SA car was REALLY sandbaggin. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop |

Got a Pontiac running is SS, that I didn't know about. It's the Hatari 4th gen. The driver for this race is Joe Santangelo. He's listed on the pre-entry list driving a 327 powered '87 Camaro. Saw a pic of the Hatari car at this race. It's #44 on the SS Q-2 qualifying list.

Both Pontiac Stockers were eliminated in round 1, even tho Chris made a real good pass.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop Joe Santangelo is still alive after 2 rounds of SS. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop |

Joe also survived SS E-3. So Pontiac is still alive.

Joe is in the final !
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop That was the good news. The bad news is that he left too soon in the final. But, he'd have needed a real good run, since his opponent cut a .001 light. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop Anyhow, congrats to Joe for his RU finish ! The Hatari Bird is no stranger to final rounds or the winners circle. I think Peter Biondo won 5 National Championships in SS. I assume they were all in Hatari Birds. His 1st was in the 3rd gen version, in 1996.
http://classracer.com/magazine/?p=999 He also won the 4-wide Nats in 2017. https://www.nhra.com/news/2017/nhra-...NRFgYCGof32PPQ Last edited by ponyakr; 04-28-2019 at 07:02 PM. |

Southern Nats & Div Races
The Southern Nats are in GA. Michael Brand is the only Pontiac name I see on the pre-entry list.
There are div races in div 1, 3, & 6. The div 1 race is called a National Open. http://www.nhradiv1.com/content/gene...834&zoneid=147 The div 3 & 6 races are the season openers for the Lucas Oil Series, in those divisions. http://www.nhra.net/2019/flyers/D3/D...20LODRS_04.pdf http://www.nhra.net/2019/flyers/D6/D...r_LODRS_05.pdf Should be lots of Pontiacs in action, especially at the div 3 race. I know Michael/ Lindsey were fighting carb problems with the Firebird at the last race so hopefully they got it sorted out.

Michael must have got it sorted out, since he dipped back into the 10's, in Q-3. But, he lost a double breakout race in E-1. So, I assume all Pontiac power is eliminated from this race.

Div 6
Wow ! Ryan Warter must have a new engine for this season. He is #1 on the Stock Q-3 list, with a 1.129 under run of 11.621. Brad Burton is #16.
https://www.nhra.com/results/2019/lu...ock-eliminator Brad is also #7 on the SS Q-2 list, with a .919 under 9.731, in the Burton Pontiac powered 3rd gen Bird. https://www.nhra.com/results/2019/lu...er/super-stock |

Div 1
Gonna need some help with some of these car ID's.
First of all, Adam Strang is #13 on the Q-list, with a very quick 1.029 under run of 10.471. At #39 is Chad Smith. He's listed as driving a 400 powered '77 Bird. So, is this the same Bird which was once owned by Dave Ribeiro ? http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...0&postcount=18 In Super Stock, there are several GT cars listed as having Pontiac power. BUT, they even list some of the 305 Chevy engines as Pontiac 305. So, I'd like to know if these cars actually have Pontiac power. #12 Ed Shrader -- 1989 Pont -- Pont 350 #19 Shane Oakes --1999 Firebird -- Pont 400 If I had to guess, I'd guess that the 350 is Chevy & the 400 is Pontiac. But, 9.73 is pretty quick for a Pontiac 400. I have no way of knowing, for sure. Last edited by ponyakr; 05-03-2019 at 09:53 PM. |
