This thread is NOT about bashing employees of ANY Car parts retailers. It’s about getting feed back on ROCK AUTO! I would appreciate if you cannot give me the info on ROCK AUTO, and you want to bash the other Big 3 auto parts stores, or other members here, do it in the CLUBHOUSE! And STOP turning MY thread into a PI$$ING match! And making disrespectful comments here.

I feel like the more info you can give the guys behind the counter the better chance they will be able to help you. If you’re not comfortable with the young guys, ask for the Manager before you even start. There’s almost always a Store Manager in these stores. But since Rock is an online store, that’s my purpose to get reviews.

MA, in my experience in dealing with “big box” auto parts stores I have encountered far more vastly under qualified, overly opinionated parts counter employees than ones who were qualified for that position. That is WHY I prefer dealing with NAPA stores or independent parts suppliers.

The people behind the counter are just putting in the information the computer is asking for, in other words they are just doing their job. Why give them a hard time. No different then when I go buy beer and have to give my date of birth or at times actually show my drivers license. I’m 65 years old, but I comply with the request because they are just doing their job.

And I do most of the time. My NAPA even has a machine shop. But they’re starting to not carry some things. They have no young guys there. 4 men at least in their mid 50’s to early 60’s. I get my 69’s air filters from them, and I’ve had heads bored out by them. The way you just posted your description of the guys, is not offensive and very well worded. I hate it when someone has to go off with the insults towards others. We just do not need that.

I was just at Target to buy some cough syrup. The cashier asked me for my license I said what? Why? Do I look that young? I’m 63 years old. She said it’s policy. I said OK Not her fault, it’s a Corporate thing, she’s doing her job. some people just thrive on conflict, sad but true.

I told him it has a 700R4
He was all F'd up after that

Well I knew where in the back, behind the counter, the rack of thermostat gaskets were so I went back there and in 2 seconds had what I needed in my hand.

I spent almost a half hour in that store for something that should have taken 5 minutes at best.

As for F ROCK...... There was nothing I said to the guy that was not true which is why I simply asked for a thermostat gasket for a SBC. I told the guy that there would be no listing for what I was working on. There is no listing for any customized vehicle in any book or database. But if an ASSHAT like you can conjure one up, I am certainly interested.

We get guys like you at our parts store. A BULLY. So, you felt the need to be a jerk over a $2.00 part? You have to give these kids credit, at least they aren't flipping burgers.

I've never used RA since I work at a parts store. I do like the way the web site is set up.

Its called "knowing what you want and getting to the point". Easy peasy. Obviously some people are just novices or like dragging things out like its an adventure or something. That is not my bag. I have better things to do than F around for a simple part. Which is why I will not deal with an on-line place like Rock Auto. Sorry if you need your hand held for a thermostat gasket.

Just as some employees shine, others are dim bulbs. I'm sure your son had to coddle several idiots before letting them go. Thing is, these chains have been reduced to hiring people with zero aptitude. Many trades are struggling because potential recruits view labor as "icky".

Sears catalogs did well because you could browse. Smart automotive counterpeople allowed me access to their catalogs, and I did my best not to disappoint them. Disinterested kids asking monotone questions is a form of punishment, and being able to peruse online catalogs is like a breath of fresh air.

I worked at an Autozone part time when I started out in Law Enforcement. We’d get the guys being jerks saying it’s for a sbc. What these arrogant turds don’t realize is we didn’t memorize part numbers, stock is put on shelves with sku numbers. There is no sbc section. The computer requires specific info to tell us what shelf and what slot your part is in. So when you decide to be an arrogant pos you’re just causing unnecessary problems. So if you know they have to look it up just tell them what it’s for. You don’t have to be some hot rod holier than thou jack ass. These guys are making 8-10 dollars an hour and truth be told the older style parts are not their bread and butter money maker so they rarely handle them. I have a ‘75 400 in my ‘66 Catalina. So if I need engine parts I tell them a ‘75 Firebird because that’s what my block is out of. I need trans parts I tell them a ‘72 Grand Prix because that’s what my trans is from. I don’t try to be a jerk. If he had just grabbed what he thought fit a sbc and it was wrong through no fault of his own you’d be on here complaining about how dumb he is.

Chevrolet made one hundred Novas. It's true, but it ain't exactly accurate.

If you had simply given them the "born with" info, the entire process would have been painless. I mean, you even said it was a common SBC gasket. Kinda leaves the door wide open, doesn't it? 65 Impala, 283, auto. Done. 79 Z28 with a stick. Done. I find it hard to sympathize with self-inflicted pain.

But seriously, I've never tried Rock Auto. I'm too impulsive. When I need something, I usually just run to napa or autozone.

I'm impulsive. Like when someone does something stupid and then brags about it on the web and I see it and call them on it...(and then a bunch of other folks chime in ...fun stuff
