Some progress at the dragstrip
Got the old poncho out to Bandimere Speedway tonight. Air was "good" just over 7,000 DA. . I drove the car up there and ran 9 passes then drove it home. Brought home my first 12 second timeslip.
60' 1.888 330 5.321 1/8 8.245 mph 84.06 1000 10.799 ET 12.98 MPH 103.11 The car pretty consistently ran 13.1's at around 103-104 and overall ran as good as it ever has. Had a couple passes at 13.0x. Best MPH was 104. The track prep kind of sucks and the car was eating my little tires (255/60/15 ET street R tires) out of the hole. Weighed in at 3850#. A/F at WOT was low 12's after I leaned the secondaries up. I'll need to find some traction somehow to get the horrendous 60' times improved but overall I'm pretty stoked. Yes, 12's arent a big deal for some but I'm not an expert tuner like many of you who hang out here. Also learning how to DRIVE! Ended up hanging out with a guy with a '70 Lemans with a 455 and I ran against him about 5 times (including the timeslip I pictured) gave me some good tips. Good times!

great job! That should be solidly in the 11's at sea-level, I'm pretty certain. Lean it out a bit more, and it will probably run even better.

Always nice to see your time come down and your altitude conversion makes it even more impressive. Cool sign at the track, too.

If you run into Scott Burton at the track, he can help you...a lot. He lives 5 miles from the track...
Cliff, did you avoid all the weather carnage???

That's getting it done pretty well at a nose bleed track.
I checked the weather and altitude for you and that 12.98 at 103 pass corrects to an 11.88 at 112 mph. With a little better 60 foot 11.60's are there. Good running car for a heavy A-body and driven to and from the track |

I always said a good night of racing is when I could drive it back home, regardless of timeslip...lol!

That's enough to get it done at that power level.
I still have one car here running mid 11's at 118mph with a Mallory 140 pump and still using it's stock 3/8 lines, with a 1/4 return and factory 5/16 lines at the carb LOL Not that it should be this way, but it works. |

Excellent outing and nice to see it work. I agree you have couple tenths in that combo. Love your running a Quad... The 60ft times are the stumbling block. . Suspension tuning is the key.

"Cliff, did you avoid all the weather carnage???"
Yep, little to nothing here. They got hammered to the North of us. Good thing too as we're logging the new property I just purchased and I didn't want it all torn up and rutted dragging out all the logs.......Cliff

Good air! Hell its amazing you just don't have Ozone way up there, lol!
Nice run times! You need a motor just for that altitude as you could likely sneak by with another point and 1/2 of compression on average!

Well I went out again last night and had some more fun - drove up there and ran 8 passes then drove it home. Air was around 8,000 DA last night. I removed the front sway bar and it seemed to help. Car was running consistent 12.90's at 103-104. . A buddy of mine got some decent videos, check 'em out. While watching the videos I think I found part of my traction problem. If you watch the videos look at the last burnout and notice how the drivers tire hooks and the passenger side tire keeps spinning... I'd welcome any feedback, im still learning. Thanks.

That corrects to about 11.60 at 115+ mph. Running good.
Looks like possibly your posi traction is a little tired. Bring that thing down to Pontiac Heaven in November. Even though our DA may likely be in the 2,000's that time of year, it should give you that 11 second slip you're looking for. |
