Any eye docs out there?
Went to my eye doc last wk and she found my left eye had a bleed. I don’t know if it was active or just saw where it had done so. She said it was usually result of high blood pressure or diabetes’s. I have neither. BP was 136/86 couple days ago and glucose at my annual physical came back at 109 and A1C was 6.4 IIRC.
Her findings caught me by surprise and could not think of ?’s at the time. She has me coming back in early Oct. for recheck on this. I’ m a regular runner, we’ll jogger, lol....this will raise b/p and heart rate so is this something I should avoid till this is checked in Oct? My work is pretty physical at times so can this add to the problem.? Sorry to be long winded......my doc is in OH and I’m in FL for next couple wks. Any pro advice would be greatly appreciated.....seems like rest of exam was WNL Thanks, Jerry |

I'm not an eye doctor. But please make sure you're eye doctor is equipped with all the tools to be able to check for macular degeneration. You want to know about this early, not late. My Dad did not stay vigilant about eye exams, and found out late that he had it. He went from seemingly normal eye sight for a man his age to legally blind in roughly 18 months. NOT saying you have this! But the "bleed" set my spider senses tingling having been through his diagnosis fairly recently. His initial noticeable loss of sight was due to a bleed. Get checked out thoroughly.

As a Type II Diabetic.....
I would watch your sugar a little closer.... A1C of 6.4 is definitely "pre" diabetic.... If not taken care of, you will be considered diabetic....

Thanks Scott and Troy....
Yeah, I’m not gonna let this drop. This doc is an MD who is an eye physician/ surgeon so I trust she knows her stuff. I realize I’m pre diabetic as glucose is always near the top of normal range and does run in family and yes, I do like all the wrong foods! I appreciate your comments and suggestions and will stay on top of this thing, whatever it is. Thanks |

I had dry macular degeneration both eyes and my left eye went wet. It’s leaking in the back of your eye. Went to my eye dr not the kind you go to in a mall. She sent me to a retina specialist. I first discovered my problem because lines on my computer were not straight. Anyway I get a avastin shot in my eye every 12 weeks. Retina doctor said if I did discover the problem I would soon have gone blind. The shot isn’t fun but better than going blind. Take care of it and see a specialist.

You need to see-and quickly- a retinologist, an ophthalmologist who specializes in the retina. This is not a benign diagnosis. Might be up for laser surgery quickly.
Also, your A1c at 6.4 is quite high. Your doc may be right that you're looking at type II diabetes. Get crackin'. This is your vision we're talking about.

My pleasure. If your vision begins dimming, get your butt to an emergency room, and fast.

Retinologist yesterday said at my age(69) not
unusual for tiny vessel to rupture in eye. Said it’s possible from blood glucose level like mine but tended to think the age thing. Recheck retina in 3 mo. to see if more of the same or if it’s a one time thing. Thanks for comments and suggestions. |

I have a lot of eye issues from having Leukemia. I see the pro’s at Shey Eye Institute. Your typical eye Dr.s just cannot help as well as these specialty places. Wills Eye is another really good place, if you have places like these where you live, but get seen ASAP! Good luck!
