I think your onto something with the roller cam bearings giving the mains more oil. I think it was LPI that drilled out the main saddle oil feed hole and the lifter galley’s to make both bigger to increase oil volume. That might be worth a phone call to Mark Luhn.
Also in a extreme case I think Mike and Eric went above and beyond to feed the #2 main extra oil on their fire breathing nitro motor. There is a thread on here about that somewhere about how they got the bottom end to live.
Roller cam bearings are also going to give you 5-10 HP just from all that oil not dumping on the crank. Power to be had there per the folks in the know.
I drill everyone of my main bearings the same size as the oil hole in the block on the singles and on the tri holes the one on the "tab" side of the 3 holes that intersect. It gets the shot of oil.
Heck with that "slot" those bearing as is. Oil still hits the back of those bearings.
As straight a shot as I can get.
BTW, why can,t we get priority main oiling in our aftermarket blocks ? Why cant it get re routed. Is it possible ?

I'd be very curious if the person that told you this actually tested this or just guessing based on theory.

I wanted to seal up my valley area for oil control on my 540 build. My engine builder said there is 0 hp there. He built all of Kenny Koretsky's pro stock engines. One time he was working with Frank Iaconio and they went as far as encasing the cam in a tube with a drain at both ends. Nothing noticable. Maybe someone else has different info.

I would think based on the oiling route that #1 would be more prone to heat, especially with the front load on the crankshaft..........ideas.....
We haven't had enough run-time to determine if #2 is always the worst. This is the first refresh.

The clearances on the mains were 0.0035 and 0.003 on the rods.
Rod bearings looked like new.

Someone who has made big NA power with a Pontiac. As good as they get, who am I to disagree? I passes it on, do what you like with it.

The 461 I am doing right now is .003 on the mains and .003 on the rods too. I can get my desired .025 with a set of coated Callico bearings. But I already have good bearings that will get me the .003
Maybe its not worth the expense of buying the coated bearings ?

Did you dyno the engine with a slipper cam then dyno the engine with the exact same(why would you) grind cam but 50mm and needle bearings instead of babbit ?
That being the only change ?

Which flexplate? Pontiac balance flexplate helps keep the crank from climbing up #2 main and knocking out 3/4 rod, Its only a couple ounces light. Its counter balanced, not like 28ounce weighted external balance.
