P@blo,
Absolutely no offense taken. I have several folks discussing costs with me in PM’s. I just felt like putting it out there. It’s unfortunate that EVERYTHING costs so darn much these days. It was a fun project. I seem to do something like it every year or so. In the past it was always just for me. Had a couple people “convince” me to sell a few. I sill have 6 sets. (Have a couple set aside for a couple people) once they are gone I will reevaluate how to go forward. Everyone has been great to deal with so far. Thanks, Stan |

Probably fine as-is.

Another option in lieu of the tube is to have a laser cut 3/16" dogbone on the underside of the lifter bore. This would have a flathead bolt inserted and welded perpendicular - it would go up as the original does.
This underdogbone could be the shape of a guitar pick or a bell, with the bolt at the apex. All it has to do is not slide out. |

true - though the issue with the bolt head is it is perceived it can come loose whereas in reality that is highly unlikely.

Stan, Solidworks.
And ... you are exactly right, some amount of compliance would certainly be in order against a cast surface. Certainly is kind of a mechanical optical illusion, but it appears it would have to bend the bolt, or break the dog bone, for that washer to slip off the edge of the block. Good simple design. PS. You know, on second look, that looks really robust, not going anywhere as long as that nut stays in place.

What I'm thinking. The Mega Lifter Bore Brace is epoxied in place and sandwiched between the bores. If the design of that, incorporated a threaded hole between the bores. Then bolt be installed down, into the Mega Brace, ensuring non movement. Would require more parts and collaboration but.

What about the High Lift Johnson’s in this scenario? Has anyone compared them?

ponchjoe,
Sort of. Most cams are ground with the high point of the lobe roughly the same height (usually about.010” or so smaller) as the bearing journals. The way the lift is increased is by reducing the base circle. The difference between the base circle, and the peak of the lobe is the lift. The issue comes from higher lift has a smaller base circle, and this allows the lifter oil band to drop out the bottom of the lifter bore. Thanks, Stuart “Stan” Landreth |

If it's blocked on the base circle, how does the lower chamber of the lifter fill with oil? Once the lifter is under pressure from the valve spring, there's no oil being pumped down there.

Been going down this road for a while now. Noisy hydraulic roller lifters. I tried fitting that Ford spider with the HT-2148 lifters and wasn't at all comfortable with it. Spider in the trash, lifters on the shelf. Ended up going the hybrid route on my Lunati 231-239, .535, .550 Cam. Not ideal, but it seemed to work. Saw here the lifter bones Stan is making. Bought a set and installed them along with the Sealed Power HT-2148 lifters. They fit perfect. Fired it up today. Lifters were a bit noisy for a minute or two then quieted right down. Ran it until fully warmed up varying the RPM up to about 2500. Engine was very quiet when I shut it down. I'm confident this is a much better set-up than that Ford Spider deal and now I have hydraulic lifters on a hydraulic cam.

Ponchjoe,
I have bought 3 sets from this eBay seller. I always asked via ask seller a question, “do the lifters match the pictures exactly, especially paying attention to the oil feed hole area?” I have had success all 3 times. I do not know the seller other than the purchases I made. I figured by asking the question if the lifters showed up incorrect, there would be no issues returning them. Not cheap, but we’re correct. https://www.ebay.com/itm/26684467597...mis&media=COPY Thanks, Stuart “Stan” Landreth |

As for country of origin on the Sealed Power HT-2148 lifters, impossible to find USA made, what is the quality of the ones made in Mexico?

I’m not sure on the actual quality but I ordered a set of Chinese ones from Sealed Power this weekend since they were available, not ideal but Federal Mogul/Sealed Power has been around for a long time & I imagine they wouldn’t be selling junk if they can help it. That being said if I get this combo installed & stumble on a set from the USA I’ll probably grab them just in case.

P@blo,
I wish I could give senior, veteran, and first responder discounts, but unfortunately I only make $10 a set for my time to box and ship them. I probably use that up in gas. I made these for myself and a few fellow PY’rs talked me into making a batch as they wanted a set. That turned into several batches. The demand has dropped off as most folks interested have already purchased. Not worth my time to advertise to break even. Just wanted to contribute to the hobby. As far as cams, if you look back through this thread, you will see a couple of guys posted their successful cam setups. Here is mine. Thanks, Stuart “Stan” Landreth |

Ok, since the beloved HT2148a Sealed Power is a Chinese product now, what lifters do you recommend, HyLifts version A2148?
Thanks

P@blo,
Thanks for the compliment P@blo Summit has the Howard’s in stock. The issue is you will need to make sure the lifter doesn’t drop too low on the base circle and close off the feed to the oil band. It’s a super easy fix that will not affect the future changes if you swap to something else later. Just use a chamfer bit or larger drill bit to chamfer the hole just a touch. (Will need the block disassembled to clean afterwards) Thanks again, Stuart “Stan” Landreth https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hrs-91174 |
