[QUOTE=einstein;6127906]https://nypost.com/2020/04/07/feds-c...vid-19-deaths/[/QUOTE

Precisely what I stated. Regardless of pre-existing conditions or underlying health issues, a death resulting from the effects of a Coronavirus qualifies as a Covid19 related death. It's not like they are calling a death from blunt force trauma a Covid19 related death.

The cases in which deaths occur from Coronavirus symptoms where a patient has not been tested are assumed Covid 19 deaths in the absence of any other supporting evidence. There is no reason to waste testing resources post-portum. As a % of the total Covid19 deaths, this is insignificant and the causal circumstances of other illness and pre-existing conditions having been ruled out, does not disqualify the validity of the reporting.

You could get decapitated by a helicopter rotor right now and if you have Covid .. you be counted. "Hey, he was distracted by his recent infection"

I went through this thread and cleaned it up again. Please, no political posts, no links to far left or far right websites, no conspiracy theories, no home remedies, no relating of opinion from a friend of a friend who knows someone, no memes that are only meant to incite people. Keep the discussion respectful. It should be about how this situation is affecting you or people around you, and discussion of facts and not opinions.

Havent heard about the PA school closings other than on here, but the way they are starting to ramp up the online learning in our county, surely seems like they are planning on closing out as well. The first 2 weeks they issued some stuff to keep the kids busy. My sister is a retired teacher but still has friends in the biz and insider info. She said they weren't going to do any grading at all. Then when the next 2 weeks off were announced they started with a schedule of work to be completed, from individual teachers with a daily workload. Now they are looking for donations of chrome books to loan out to those without, I suppose the school systems supply has dried up. I will not be surprised at all when they make the announcement! Not too big of a deal for us with a second grader, but it would be pretty rough if you were graduating this year.

I'm not sure what's so puzzling about what I said about opinions - people throwing out opinions without basis in fact are just speculating, and they aren't contributing to the discussion.

Did you just read what you posted? This entire corona virus is based on speculation! 2.2 million deaths, 200,000 deaths, 150,000 deaths, 60,000 deaths. Corona virus models from an assortment of universities and others which are "projections" - or in other words, speculation.

Most of what we have to listen to is opinion, just different news reporting. The problem with such a situation is that it is all opinion and speculations - if not, prove me wrong and you, stuart, provide the cold hard facts. It is opinions and speculations that began the craze in hording toilet paper and cleaning out the grocery stores of food. It is opinion and speculation that has essentially shut this nation's economy down.

The facts are that no one knows anything about exactly how many deaths will occur, how to prevent/treat this virus, in what way is the virus really transmitted, how long the national shut down will last, and what effect it will have on the future economy.

At this point, it's all opinion & speculation short of the death tally that we can't conclusively know if Covid-19 was indeed the cause of death or if any underlying health conditions were the cause of death.

Opinions and speculations can be based out of fear, or used constructively in conversation to reach a resolve. What you have left out of your statement is INTENT. What the intent is behind the opinion and speculation dictates the sincerity and validity of the opinion and speculation.

So if you want to play moderator and censor those posts you do not agree meet your opinion, then learn how to do it correctly and separate those posts that have good intent even if they go against your personal opinions.

Play moderator? Censor?

I might not agree with the computer models, but they are relevant.
The real world needs estimates, like driving time, repair costs, etc.
The opinions that aren't needed are the ones that are contentious.

Stuart, you are absolutely correct RE: opinions......as the old saying goes: "opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one, most of 'em stink!"

In reply to PontiacJim1959: My actions or words have offended you and I apologize for that, and unfortunately I suspect there's nothing I could say that would make you feel better.

---

Under normal circumstances a discussion like this would have been removed from the Lobby before it got to the bottom of the first page, but these are exceptional times. Many people want a place to talk about what's going on, so it's been left in place. The best we moderators can do is to try to keep the discussion running down the road in a relatively straight fashion, and when it appears to be swinging too far in one direction or the other try to aim it back down the road again.

There is a separate discussion going on in the Clubhouse that may be more appropriate for those who have more extreme views.

You're doing a fine job, Stuart. You removed some of my stuff, and i didn't think it ventured into the true "no-go zone", but you've been given the reins here to make the judgment calls. There's a lot of gray here. Keep on keepin' on...

I guess I should know better than to say anything, but...

I place zero value on forum posts that are merely links to news organizations (posts #483, 486, etc. of this thread).

Probably nothing wrong with helping people stay informed by the scientists, doctors and experts. Not everyone has the time to do all the searching themselves.

Personally I like the links people post, often informs me of something I didn't know. In a time like this it's probably best if people can easily find accurate information.

But to each his own, I value everyone's opinions and efforts.

In the future I'll try to put them all in the same post so it will be less intrusive.

Default Economy

I know we have a pandemic causing the economy to shutdown. But, it also show how fragile it was and is...

A global hurricane with everyone’s home, goods, and environment intact.

And it’s not a new day yet to see a recovery.

Who doesn’t feel that impact?

Other than not being able to obtain a haircut, visit with friends and family, and turn license plates in, not much has changed negatively for me. I have seen increased pay since my job is considered essential. Fortunately, I did all of the face to face stuff with purchasing a new home before the shutdowns. I haven't had to deal with competing buyers because they can't see the house in person. The interest rate and asking price have been reduced due to the nature of the economy. Hopefully, this pause in society will end at the end of the month. Otherwise, those who have lost everything might not succumb to Covid, but to other demises due to their anguish.
