Front motor plate or solid mounts?
On my 76 TA the last three years I have used solid steel mounts on the block and poly mount on the trans. I was only making about 525 HP on this setup. This coming year the engine should make about 700 HP. My quesion is, are the mounts I am using an issue on the Pontiac block with this much power or should I use on of the AllPontiac front mototr plates or possibly use both.

A front and mid plate would be optimal.

I would use front and midplate.

I ran solid mounts on my car never had an issue but if I was starting over I would use the front and mid-plate just for peace of mind.

What's wrong with solid mounts and just the front plate for 700hp?
Thanks |

That's the route I'm taking this year. I'm also solid at the tranny mount. Will be in the same horse power range.

We only use a solid mount combination and are way over 700hp. Plates would be best but mounts should work.

If your headed for the 9's diapers are required and motor mounts make it more of a pain to remove for changing oil etc imo

I made a pair of these for this year to use in conjunction with my existing solid motor mounts and poly trans mount. Figured they’re not a bad idea; less flex equals more power to the ground and reduced stress on the block.

I had issues with Mighty Mounts and made a set of "elephant ears". Now the engine is rock solid.
Solid motor mounts only can have issues when using a 2 step. Its hard on blocks, they can crack. |

When I stated solid mounts, what I meant to say is the car has solid 1/4 in. steel frame brackets and the engine has solid 1/4 in. steel mounts on it . It does not have any type of factory mounts or Mighty Mounts. But the brackets are bolted on the factory block locations and I thought this might be an issue for block cracking. Some are saying no issue and I appreciate all the comments. A lot of you have more experience with this.

I have a set of these Mighty Mounts. These guys buy $20 Chinese mounts and install 2 bolt through each one, call it a day and charge $150 for them. Mine have stayed together. What were your issues with them? Thanks |

Nice Bracket. Did you install one of these on the drivers side also? I have pretty much the same setup but driver side only with solid motor mounts and 600 hp. Had no issues to date. Thanks |

Chuckie, yes, both sides as the DS is the important one. And thank you, I think they turned out pretty good.

The engine moved MUCH more. One day while trying out different intakes I put on a T2 so the throttle cable was tighter, but worked. I put it in gear with foot on the brakes hard and gave it just a little gas. I was in my pit at the track. The car went forward 10 feet through a fence since it pulled the cable more. No one hurt but my pride. Car just got a few scratches. I made elephant ears after that, problem solved. |

I destroyed two stock blocks using solid mounts. Cracked blocks at #3 hole.

That's what I plan on doing first. Some have told me the mid-plate is a pain in the ass on header istallation and other parts. I'm thinking the front plate and solid mounts will be enough at 700 HP with what everyone has said. Hope I'm right.
