One problem with that., Pete: Both L.A. and San Francisco have international airports but far fewer cases of COVID-19 infections and deaths than NYC. Indianapolis is “on fire” with COVID-19 yet has very few(Air Canada only) international flights. Louisville has an international airport which handles hundreds of international fights per week(UPS is an international airline) yet is one of the least COVID-19 infected larger cities in the U.S.

Here is a nice little overview of what covid 19 does in the body. Taking persons tempature is going to become more and more common place when entering people with a lot people. Good luck trying to find a temporal thermometer though. Here is a good youtube on what covid 19 can do to your body

My wife works as a head cashier at Home Depot and is 61 yrs old. At my request, she agreed to be taken off the schedule for the foreseeable future and hasn't been into work for the last couple of weeks. I heard today that a cashier at their major competitor across the road tested positive.
There is an interesting website that will tell you when the infections in your area are supposed to peak. https://covid19healthdata.org The chart openes with the data for the entire US displayed, but if you click on the US and the down arrow, you can select any state you like. It also tells you how many hospital beds and ICU beds the state has, the projected shortage if one exists, and an estimate of the number of ventilators needed. |

And Italy's international airport is in the North, Milan. And it might be dumb luck in which a flight narrowly avoids becoming a carrier? At any rate, foreign viruses need to find their way through ports of entry, in this case, international air ports. It's almost as if you can't have areas of high population density without having an international airport. IMO, it's a factor worth considering. The hit and miss nature of the virus makes it tough to track, but it found a way into the country. |

I have close relatives in the Biochemistry and pharma industries, and a Sister in the testing and test equipment Arena, we all are hearing about.
Main Points. 1. A "quick prick" test does NOT "culture your blood and see if you actually HAVE COVID19. Cultures are done from Nasal or saliva swabs usually and take a Minimum of 24 hours to grow to a point they can be accurately identified. Quick testing only sees if your body has made antibodies to Fight "A VERSION"of coronavirus. This INCLUDES any Cold or flu you may have had in the last 20 years. 2. ANY cold or Flu is referred to as a Coronavirus in the Medical field. 3. 90+ % of people "quick" tested WILL test positive for a coronavirus they ONCE Had, and or the Current one. This is why we see stupid high numbers. 4. Notice there are No reported facts about the Flu numbers in March ? They are now lumped into Coronavirus. 5. Azithromycin and hydroxychloroquin and Zinc are key to beating this version of Covid19 And these are tested FACTS.. Zinc can be had in Zicam rapid melts. 6. This Version Covid19 IS indeed 3x more contagious, so some caution is needed. 7. Droplets from a sneeze evap much quicker in hot weather, and kills the virus. 8 Porch railings, etc, in the sun, will NOt keep any virus for more than 2 min in the Sunshine. ( UV-C ( lights and sunshine) KILLS this Virus in its tracks). 9 Vitamin D2 and D3 are your best Immune defense . Most over 40 do NOT produce much, even in the Sun. 10. The rate of recovery is over 98% 11. Stay away from Hospitals. 12 Get plenty of rest. Rest is huge for the immune system. 13. Panic and fear are Not healthy , This is Not the end of anything... After thought that could save this country MILLIONS $$..... A wooden /cardboard/ metal box with a UV-C lamp inside can sterilize a N95 Mask in 3 minutes for re use. I heard the news earlier today.
Here in Talladega, there are a lot of people who act like nothing is going on. Taking babies and kids in Walmart with no protection. It's a very different world. Stay safe out there.

"5. Azithromycin and hydroxychloroquin and Zinc are key to beating this version of Covid19 And these are tested FACTS.". I've been posting all over the other forum I spent a lot of time on, and here, that the New Orleans VA hospital has been using hydroxychloroquine and azithromyacin for over 3 weeks now, successfully, to treat COVID-19. Too bad the media and others have been disparaging many who reported success in using those drugs, and hydroxychloroquine alone as a preventative. How many lives could have been otherwise saved if not for the torrent of nay sayers? If distribution of hydroxychloroquine would have been the immediate response rather than shutting down the economy, how many less businesses and jobs would have been lost? |

There are 19 cases in my County (Randolph County - NC)
One week ago there were 17 cases, so its good news only 2 more have developed. No airport or bus terminal here. Gas is $1.33 Diesel is still a rape at $2.55 - practically unchanged from when gas was $2.35 Walmart and Grocery Stores have 0 (zero) toilet paper last 2 weeks. I don't need any more, but every time i go in a store for the past 2 weeks - i check their stock just to see. Water and all other groceries are well stocked. Gun stores are still open. Walmart was 24 hours - started closing at 11pm - now closes at 8:30pm They just made channels for enter / exit and have personnel by all doors in the last 2 days. Cop stationed at each exit doorway. Shop-lifting must have risen dramatically - i'm guessing. |

Went to Sams Dothan this morning and decided not to brave it, as I can get in early Tuesday or Thursday as a senior. Hit Walmart lot and ditched those plans too. Before Dothan I went in Ozark Walmart for a prescription, but they had the Pharmacy side entrance blocked off and were requiring everyone to use the Grocery side entrance, with a "cattle run" fashioned with yellow tape on the bollards. I was so irritated to have to traverse the 40 or 50 people who crowded front end, twice, that I called the ASM when I got back to my truck to point out that people who need meds need the direct access through that door and not all that exposure. She said she'd review with the Store Manager.
I was gonna hit Harbor Freight Troy this evening but they've cut their hours. Need a Lowes visit as well for all the stuff I can fix while stuck at home. Very blessed that wife has remote status since we got here in '16, and I can do plenty for my job without leaving. PS gas in Dothan Murphy (WM) at $1.39, forgot to look at Sam's price, usually about a nickel less for regular, and 30 cents less for the premium. And DIL ships out 5AM, activated Army Reserve. We'll see a lot more of son while she's gone. |

My local Walmart has initiated the "cattle run" as well yesterday. Maybe that was a corporate mandate? Lots of areas of shelves empty, mainly yogurt and pudding, cottage cheese, lots of sliced packaged sandwich meats and cheese, ALL fresh fruit juices, margarine, butter...ALL either slim to none. Toilet paper isle looks like the racks and shelves were just installed...not a roll in sight.

social distancing. Home Depot here has been using 50 as it's magic number. When, let's say five people leave, five more get let inside. WalMart normally attracts crazy people, and crazy people really don't like being told to wait, so that might explain the police presence? HTH. |

I'm still fascinated by the paper products thing. It's going to get written up in psychology journals for decades. Incredible study in mindless herd behavior. Would love to know the seed that started it ... perhaps as simple as one person, in one store, saw the person next to them buying a whole cart load of TP.
More probably some website jokingly touted a TP shortage and it went off from there into mass hysteria. |

I'll also say "hurrah!" to that.
Truth is, the military can have an advantage in a pandemic. Two army generals have demonstrated it. They were well prepared (both logistically and strategically) and quickly put firm distancing rules in place. US troops in S.Korea have had two(!) cases to date, and in the Italian area commanded by the other general, I think it's now five cases. Wow.

The five cases in the Vincennes area of Italy are among 15,500 US troops in the General's command.
