Default Its Now That Time.

My Gto has been sitting for couple years. And I am now looking to drive it this summer. Should I prime the engine spinning oil pump or will I be ok just cranking the engine over for a few spins?

Thanks Tom

I think I would pull the plugs, maybe shoot a little Marvel oil in the cycs and spin it over some with the coil wire removed. Then put new plugs in and install the coil wire.Maybe give a small shot of starting fluid in the open carb.My worry would be the quality of the gas in the tank?Tom

If you are not that "expert" on distributor removal, priming the pump/galleries, re-installation, and setting the timing again, I would recommend removing the valve covers and using a simple oil can lubing the valvetrain.

The oil pump should pump the oil thru the new oil filter and to the bearings/lifters fairly quickly. Then you should be ready to go again. It depends on what you have for a camshaft duration too and your previous mechanical knowledge.

Course the other deal is get a Pontiac guy who has been thru the steps a few times to help you with all of the steps. Not much info in your post as far as your skill level.

All fuel has been drained. Just received my restored carb. Car has been in climate control. Fresh oil ram air 3 cam. Skill level I would say very good. Have no issue pulling dizzy and priming. My worries are the rod crank and cam bearings being dry. After sitting so long. Tom

No need to pull dist.
I like the idea of shot of oil in a few places turning over by hand a bit
Then use the starter,
Oil pressure will build fast.
by the time fuel get you carb you be ready to fire
