We are about normal here in the Metro Detroit area. "Big" snow coming in a few hours according to the weather forecasters. I love watching the weather channel trying to say all of this is abnormal. It is winter. Some years are better than others. I still don't want to be in Florida, California or out west. Like was said earlier, every where has it pluses and minuses in the weather department. It won't belong until it is warm again.

Text from my daughter in Round Rock north of Austin
We are at 14 degrees now, will be at -15 tonight with the wind chill. Tomorrow night we will have another ice storm, and wed night another snow storm. Over 2 million people without electricity, many without gas and now pipes are bursting everywhere and are without water. She's doing ok, has 8" of snow in her yard San Diego occasionally drops down around 35* in the winter. Sometimes below freezing away from the coast near the mountains. Our only real bad time of the year is Aug-Sept when temps average in the low 90s and monsoonal humidity from the Gulf of Mexico reaches our way. Cold front passing through today, temperature about 62*. It will turn into another big storm for Texas later this week.

This is north of Houston this morning- no broken pipes yet, but our homes surely aren’t built for this.

So, it rained an inch yesterday. That slipped out of here and this morning it’s 14 degrees out with all the rain frozen and dusted with a lite coating of snow. In Alabama that means SNOW DAY.

7° here, with bright sunshine. Hardly any wind. So it don't feel nearly as cold as it did last night.
2° in Shreveport. Might hit 30° today. For Wed, it's supposed to be back in the teens, with another ice storm beginning in the early morning hours. Looks like we'll thaw out Fri & Sat. Last edited by ponyakr; 02-16-2021 at 09:55 AM. |

10 below, 7-8" of snow from the other days deluge.
Another snow storm to hit this afternoon & through the night. An hour plus ago, OG&E began 1-2 hour blocks of rolling blackouts due to constraints on the southern power grid. We lucked out yesterday, as only rolling blackouts were hours S of us in DFW area.

Every time we get a snow accumulation, TJ's horse loves to rear up, buck, kick out his hind feet & run full speed around the horse lot. TJ says it gives him the "zoomies". He has been known to rear almost straight up, just like the horses in the old Western movies.
Our driveway & little road thru the woods still has several inches of snow on it. I figure that neither UPS nor FedEx will try to come here, 'til most of the snow melts. And, although the neighbors have been driving in & out, I don't figure we'll get any mail delivered to our mailbox. Could be wrong. Don't know what type vehicles our rural mail carrier has. If he has a 4WD, he may deliver today. There are lots of deer hunters in this area. So, there are also lots of 4WD pickups. And, there are probably quite a few non-hunters who have a 4WD pickup. We're about a mile from the main paved road that runs thru our little community. Haven't been out to look at it yet. But, I assume that it has had enuff traffic on it, by now, to be very safe. Sometimes, there doesn't need to be snow on the ground, for the horse to get the "zoomies". Most any cool morning can trigger him, especially if he thinks TJ is being a little too slow about serving his breakfast.
The pics below are from a spell he had back in what TJ has labeled: 1st Cold Snap Nov 2016. The last pic is of our dog, today. He is always ready to go somewhere, regardless of the weather. Lots of times when we walk outside, it seems that he is trying to entice us to go walking with him. It's almost as if he could talk & is saying: "Come on, lets go somewhere". Just checked the thermometer on our back porch. It reads 34°. Water is now dripping from the South side of our roof, as the sunshine begins to melt the ice & snow on it. That's TJ's horse. She said Thank you !
It's her 2nd Appy. Had her 1st one about 20 years. Has had this one a little over 20 years. Got her 1st when he was about 10 months old. Trained him & was the only person who ever road him. She has gone thru quite a few "trail dogs", during her 40+ years of Appy riding. Dogs just seem to love going on trail rides. We've never bought a dog. Most of 'em have just "showed up". There has been quite a variety. |

Hope all you guys dealing with the cold and snow make it through safe, a touch chilly here today with highs in the mid 60's. Mid to upper 70's for the weekend and nothing but sunshine in the forecast.

It's 60F and sunny outside now, but it has rained almost non-stop since November. My yard is mush, and if this continues I'm worried my septic will back up. I never had septic tank issues before but this is about the mushiest my yard has ever been, and I've been in this house almost 30 years.
We have seen a few flakes of snow, no accumulation, and no ice yet. Areas just about 50 miles north had some serious ice storms this weekend but it was an all rain event here. The weather forecast shows more rain with no frozen precipitation, coldest temperature will be 26F. If this rain keeps up, I think I'll need to start building an ark. |
