what should i do to make this gap better

keep playing with adjustment at the top & bottom of the fender if everything else is located good. i found that the bottom 2 bolts have a lot of play in them to allow a lot of change in the lower half of the gaps. try getting the top where you like it then work on the lower half, or a combination of both. hard to get these 100% even, & they werent perfect when new.

Hard to tell from pictures but assuming the door is where it needs to be, it looks like the fender could use some shims at the core support to raise the front of the fender slightly if you are looking to tighten that gap near the top. Or possibly the entire fender may need to be moved rearward. It's really a judgement call as to what you're looking for.

Just finished this alignment with my car. You really have to assemble the hood and nose to even the gaps on all panels. In your picture it looks like the front of the fender should go in. That would open the gap at the belt line and close it at the top. Put the nose on to establish the distance between the front fenders then the hood. The front fenders and nose may have be moved left or right to square the opening for the hood and give a equal gap. Moving the front edge of the fender heel and rad support height will also change the the door gap. Try not to tighten the gap too much and allow for paint and clearance when the door is opened. Patience and time.

Align the door to the quarter first and the bottom of the door to the rocker. those parts cant be moved. Then make the fender align to the door.
You should also do a X dimension on cowl and core support . Be aware that you can or must shim the core support to proper position. level the car . place a level on cowl . Make car level. Then level core support to be level with car. Now you can adjust fenders to fit hood and doors Also there is some adjustment in the sub-frame at mounts . call it wiggle room |

Before you go crazy with that, make SURE you have the width between the fenders for the hood, front and back of fender. Youll need at least 1/4 inch on each side of gap.
