Motor was built in 2015 so older lifters I guess. Don’t know when they changed. Will get back to it today and continue search for missing piece . Has to be there somewhere. Checked with a few sites and seems no stock on these till June ☹️. I wanted this back on road by end of month! Btw new TKX fits very nicely, just had to massage floor pan a bit towards rear of trans.

Just a thought, could those bars be contacting the push rod cover leading to destruction?
And the push rod cover is where the lose parts settled possibly |

No evidence of contact with valley cover. Will continue search this afternoon for missing part. Found a spare pair of 857 I replaced when engine was new,one had collapsed. Going to pull apart and see if I can find reasons for collapse and reuse hopefully

Even Comps detachable solid roller lifters link bar seems suspicious to me, one of the reasons I stayed with Crower

Video of why he didn't have more problems
Quick video of why he didn't have more problems and why the Arrow Injuneering Roller Lifter Guide Plate works. IF he had floated the valves because of weak valve springs this could have been a disaster!

Was the valley pan still on when you first turned the motor over on the stand? Like I said before the missing part could be in the baffle of the valley pan.

My old style 857’s from 2010 have the rollers almost covered up by the body.
Like these; https://www.ebay.com/itm/Comp-Cams-8...epid=192366391 |

OK So these are old style. Which is better old or new ?
They prolly have a couple hundred passes on them. Replace with something else ?

I'll put this up again for comparison sake.
These are both Pontiac lifters, bought from Comp Cams. The pair on the left I believe are Johnsons, purchased them through Comp. The pair on the right I bought from Paul K and are the "S" lifters sold through Comp.. As you can see the oil band is much higher on the new "S" version, and is correct for Pontiac. However I've run both of these in Pontiac engines and had no issues with either design, with no oil band modifications done. Which is better is debatable. Some prefer the known quality that comes with the Johnsons, with what seems to be better internals with more consistent bleed rates. We ran those for about 5 years in a 455 and they were flawless. Many also like the encapsulated wheels, they are much stronger. The "S" lifters have the oil band moved up and that seems to attract many Pontiac'ers even though I believe the issue is again more related to internal lifter clearances and inconsistent bleed rates as the oil band height hasn't made a bit of difference in anything I've built here. Some don't like the exposed wheels, and there has been instances of those breaking, although I've never experienced that myself. Link bars are pretty much the same between the 2 brands. Pick your poison. Last edited by Formulajones; 04-15-2021 at 10:55 AM. |

Those Johnsons I pictured on the left, you can tell they've been run. They were in a 455 with eddy round ports and a custom 254/262 @ .050 cam that Jeff Kauffman spec'd for that engine. They saw 6000 rpm many times over a period of 5-6 years that engine was together and thousands of street miles, whisper quiet, they worked perfectly and nothing wrong with them when that engine came out. They'll go back in something in the future. I have the same hydraulic roller lifters in my 454 Chevelle with a 242/248 cam that have been in there going on 20 years now. That one sees 6500 semi frequently. They work perfectly. |

Nothing wrong with that either. I love solid flat tappets. Daily drive one, and 2 other cars here with them as well. I nitride the cam and run the EDM lifters with lube hole on the face, button it up and don't worry about it.
