Got rid of the Escalade. Sold it for enough to buy a 2005 Z71 outright that has been meticulously maintained and put more money back for my car. The truck is bone stock besides various parts being rebuilt. The truck is tuned up perfectly and is stone silent. It still has the factory drum muffler on it. I want the truck to sound like a truck but it’s my daily driver right now so can’t put up with drone. So what brand muffler? Single in and dual out? Single in and out? True dual? I have to make a decision before the 26th cause that’s when my appointment is. I don’t want it loud I just want it to sound “better” what are you guys running on 5.3 trucks?

Are you just changing the muffler or installing a whole system ? My neighbor has a Borla exhaust on his truck and it sounds good. Does your truck have a muffler and a resonator? I know a popular thing to do on the newer Silverado’s is to remove the resonator.

I have the cat back Corsa exhaust on my 06. Dual exhausts exit behind the rear wheels, all stainless. Nice mellow tone. Removed the original in my driveway all in one piece. The Corsa came in sections that I bolted together then had a shop weld all the joints. Fourteen years and a 170K later, it still looks and sounds good.

The factory exhaust system on those trucks actually flow pretty well aside from the huge muffler.

On mine I ran a Spintech Super Pro Street 9000 in place of the stock muffler, and it sounded great. Not too loud, at least not until I did longtubes and no cats. lol

Just be careful not to make it too loud...there are all kinds of late model pickups running around with stock engines and what seems to be nearly open exhausts, and they sound terrible.

I agree with that. I decided against changing exhaust on my Silverado. It’s nice to go on road trips with a quiet truck. If I want to make noise, I get out the Firebird.

Factory mufflers last a very very long time, and only the rubber hangars wear out..

I agree. Years ago I put an aftermarket exhaust on my ‘99 Silverado. The stock system was fine, but I wanted more noise. Muffler lasted a year, pipes about 3. Last time I do that. Stock systems can easily go 20 years these days, even up here in the rust belt.

Agree with you, trucks should sound like trucks, you can step up the sound and still keep it at a low rumble. I’d suggest you contact one of this sites hosts, PYPEs Exhaust, ask for Mike Spirazzi. These guys will hook you up. good luck!

Seriously I’m not gonna spend a lot of money, looking at a muffler change that’s it. I thought the damn thing cut off at the red light the first day I drove it twice because it makes NO noise. Not getting a flowmaster or anything, maybe just a nice super turbo by dynomax or something

On my 2017 Sierra 5.3, I eliminated the factory muffler/backpressure valve assembly, and installed a straight pipe. These models also had a resonator in the tailpipe, which I retained. They also have three catalytic converters, which one can be removed without the PCM knowing. Anyway, the sound is authoritative, but mellow, and it did pickup some performance for a total cost of $30.

Cut off the factory barrel and put on a Magnaflow. No drone, subtle but throaty, goes to sleep in overdrive.
