If Chief has run 40% and kept it together, then he is one of the baddest dudes in all of drag racing.

He may have said that he has 40% in it, but i'm willing to bet that he doesnt...

He did a live youtube q&a a couple weeks ago where he detailed his engine. In it he said he has ran up to 40%.

Remember as you move up the food chain of fuels how the air fuel ratio drops (I believe nitro is around 2:1). The only good thing helping fuel demand / delivery is the specific gravity of Nitromethane is 1.139. So what kind of fuel system were he need to be running 40%? What do Chief run for an ignition system?

Are you trying to say street racers don’t always tell the truth? I can’t believe you would even suggest that!

I am not saying he isn’t telling the truth. But Nitro is not joke. Wonder how many runs he get before he Tears it down?

You're right on the money Stan. 40% would need something like double the fuel flow, less compression, more ignition lead....in other words an entirely different combo. So color me skeptical on the 40% claim. But it makes good TV to say bold things? But I have no direct info so take that as speculation only.

I think your assessment is dead on...

Running 1/8 mile vs 1/4 mile buys you a whole lot of bad tuning karma. I have no idea how much nitro Chief may have been running either. But incorrect tuning and timing can be tolerated much easier for 4 seconds than for 6 seconds. Those last 2 seconds do an exponential amount of damage to a poorly tuned engine, especially with lots of nitro in the tank. I have milk cartons full of pistons, rods and other aluminum cole slaw to back this statement. That's why you test your tunes at 60, 300 and maybe 660ft. before you really go for it!

Not at all...I just added up the rounds required to win or runner up. You always have to throw something in that isn’t even there...I like the chances a lot better than what I had in Pro and better than the Friday night gamblers race that had 144 cars in it and I still won a little scratch in that one by going 6 rounds...

May be and may not...I will be quicker next year because my combo is completely untuned so far...shocks all wrong, no vacuum pump, no jet or timing changes and I have a lot of room to upgrade the intake manifold...and if all else fails I can run 100 shot and be deep 8’s...lol

Sounds like he has it figured out.. but it also explains why he doesn’t run NPK much. I am sure they don’t let him run nitro there.

George,

The engine combination is new, converter tightened up, turbine housings have been change. Saturday at Norwalk was the first time the car made what I would consider a full pass 7.873 @ 183.37mph, leaving really lazy. We'll address the launch spooling issue without putting a procharger on it.
