Boys' Night Out ... how things have changed!
A buddy of mine and I decided to go out for dinner and a beer. He voted for Buffalo Wild Wings and I went along with the program even though I think they don't live up to the hype and are way overpriced.
We get there and the hostess hands us a photocopied 1 page menu and says "We have a limited menu due to no kitchen staff." The "menu" has only wings and tenders on it. I never really "got" that place anyway and think $22 for a small basket of chicken wings really is ridiculous. I don't mind paying the price if I feel like I am getting value for the money, but sitting at a table rocking back and forth on an uneven floor on rickety bar stools in an empty restaurant with no kitchen help, eating overpriced chicken scraps and drinking overpriced beers really blows. My buddy looks over the menu, comes to his senses and says "Lets just order a beer and go somewhere else." 1 bottle of Corona, 1 glass of Goose Island Draft, $17.00 plus tip and we were on our way. Went to Jersey Mikes, got subs and and drank my Two Brothers Prairie Path Prairie IPA ($1.50/bottle) out on my deck. Staying at home doesn't seem so bad after all.

My one son could eat at BWW every day. I wasn’t impressed. I live in an area where the closest one is probably over an hour away.
I do support my local mom and pop diners weekly though. They know me by name, home cooked food, and prices are reasonable. Support your locally owned joints!

Me and my Brothers will go to BWW and get a bunch of boneless chicken and French fries to go, swing by the gas station and grab a 30 rack of Natty Ice and a bottle of Fireball, and spend the night watching football or hockey. That's basically our version of boys night lol

Just to repeat what I heard on a local AM radio news station, WLW 700 in Cincinnati. They were interviewing the owner of a large independent wing restaurant near the Reds/Bengals stadiums. Prime real estate, so I am sure their rent is huge. Food menu sounded similar to BWW. He said the cost of raw wings was 4 times as expensive as pre-pandemic. Cost of labor was nearly double. Plus he can't find anyone to work for the nearly double pay. Customer counts are way down from 2 years ago and almost none for a year. I don't see many of these places being able to survive much longer. My personal experience eating out has been lousy service, much higher prices, generally feeling cheated when I walk out. Fortunately, I like to cook and have the time to do it. But a trip to the grocery can be eye popping too when you check out. Only the strong restaurants or ones backed by huge corporations will weather this storm.

We go to BWW on Sundays to watch out-of-town football with others cheering for their teams, always a good time. $4 domestic tall boys, $15 for a dozen or so wings, no problem. The place is busy, only 15 minutes away.

We went to Buffalo Wild Wings as a team after my son’s Pop Warner game today. One of the moms ordered nachos, and was served tortilla chips covered with mayonnaise! She complained, and they took it off the bill, but they insisted the Mayo was sour cream and said “that’s how we make it.”

LazerTag last night. BNN adds up to League Bowling for me: fancy beer, decent resturant with waitresses, and packed house.

I enjoy BWW every once in awhile.
But I think the pricing mentioned by the OP is part of being in the greater Chicago area (I'm assuming that Elgin is the one in IL - please correct me if I'm wrong). Two beers at my local BWW is no where near $17.00 and a small bowl of wings for $22.00??? I can have a beer, some wings and fries for under $15.00, plus tip. |

Don’t ever go in but the BWW by us is always packed in fact all the restaurants by us are are packed every weekend. Your going to wait 1 hour plus on the weekend for road house or any restaurants like that. We had a couple restaurants close last year from being shut down but most have already been replaced with another restaurant.

Buffalo Wild Wings has a "Buy One Get One" special on tues and thurs by me, only time I get the wings. Also the fries are made in beef tallow according to their website, you do taste the difference. I only get it when I can expense the meal through work.
Going out is mainly for the games, atmosphere and someone else cleaning up..

Wow a lot of hate for BWW. Can’t say I’m a huge fan either but it’s not like they are much worse than many of the other cookie cutter joints they are constantly dropping in front of endless strip malls.

My wife and I like the buffalo wings at Hooters more so.
I really like the 3 mile Island sauce but recently I have started getting the buffalo chicken sandwich instead covered in the 3 mile Island sauce. But we might only go every six weeks or so. The picture below is fitting for the times. |

To the op point. My kids when young played lots of travel sports. Always thought that BWW would be a gold mine if they just scrapped the whole basket/tray thing and used some decent table ware!
That said wings way overpriced now. Can’t justify the price for a splattered tray if sauce and bones.
